Yes your right, they have that winning effect. Next week i wud assume we will be wearing blue socks, blue shorts and striped jumper against the lions at our home game. But then again, u never know with North.Devil Fish said:We wore them in the 1999 GF to great effect. I have written at least 12-13 letters to the club pleading with them to wear the hooped socks more often. As soon as I saw us in the hooped socks today, I knew we would win.![]()
I wonder what we'll be wearing next week?????
Spot on DF. The omens were with us today. The hooped socks, the lights being turned on at the MCG, the opposition hitting 10 9 69 and once again being distracted by that number and losing the game. Yep it was great.Devil Fish said:We wore them in the 1999 GF to great effect. I have written at least 12-13 letters to the club pleading with them to wear the hooped socks more often. You're thinking too logically H Dolphin. For example, we refused to wear our alternative strip against Collingwood, but were happy to wear it against Richmond & Hawthorn. Go figure?H Dolphin said:I assumed that they were worn yesterday because Footscray's socks are predominently royal blue.
I undertand that North's choice of jumpers is dictated by its deals with sponsors. I like the vertical stripes and hooped socks. What dill instituted the change from hoops to plain coloured socks in the '70's ?Devil Fish said:..., but were happy to wear it against Richmond & Hawthorn. Go figure?
I'm not sure if it was a dill (whom I shall refer to as John Doe). It was more likely to be a bozo or a clown or even a baffoon.H Dolphin said:I undertand that North's choice of jumpers is dictated by its deals with sponsors. Yup. Wish we won though.pharro said:Nothing to figure. We were telling Eddie to get stuffed.
Way back when and shortly after the umpires changed from black socks to royal blue socks, I recall a Footscray player handballing to the umpire from the bottom of a pack. He would have seen the socks and assumed it was another Footscray player. Goal umpires make decisions on goals from scrambles in the goal mouth by looking at the socks of the last boot to touch the ball. I think that clash socks are probably more an issue than clash jumpers.Woodson said:Yup. Wish we won though.![]()
As for Hooped socks.... not sold on them yet. Prefer the royal blue hose.
Not superstious about socks.

Yeah, I know my mate Fabio is all for the hooped socks. Even to the extent that when he frequents a certain men's club, he insists on weraing the hooped socks.Flag Man said:Being a traditionalist, I am in favor of the hooped socks.
It would have been more of a problem before '97 when both North and Footscray wore royal blue socks. If North wear blue and white hoops and Footscray have a red hoop in place of or in addition to the red and white top of its sock, then the clash is avoided. Neither of Collingwood nor Essendon's socks clash with either of our clubs. Lucky because both are sure to whinge about history and constitutions.Marstermind said:Yep and I think the AFL are onto it as well. I mean, what was going on with Collingwood's socks this year when they played Carlton? They had two white vertical stripes running up either side of the leg. They looked ridiculous.
