Nice one. The boys showed alot of bottle almost pulling them in tonight, especially given injuries. Given we can do that with the enormous amount of outs we have, I came away from the game slightly disappointed (a win is always best!) but also proud.

Agree - the boys really lifted tonight despite everything looking like it was against them.

With our outs going into the game I never really expected a win, just wanted to see a good game.

One of the big positives for me was having 11 goal kickers.

Good thread:thumbsu:

Despite finishing behind on the scoreboard, I was delighted with the endeavor and never say die attitude of our blokes.

Despite a bench of 2 in the last quarter, our guys threw everything bar the kitchen sink at Freo and nearly pulled the game out of the fire.:thumbsu:

Although we were down most of the night, I really thought we could have won it in the end. I thought we played well enough to have got over most teams, despite the injuries and the things that shall not be mentioned in this thread ;-)

Nice. :thumbsu:

Our two key forwards playing injured and four of our back six out (and a 5th sitting on the bench for much of the game) and we got within a bee's proverbial of a win.

Banfield continued to pressure well tonight and snagged another couple of sausage rolls.

Leuie stepped up.

Polks was good.

If we get Rog, Goose and Patfull back next week I'm more confident of a win against the Cats than I was against Freo tonight.

We're 4 and 3. You'd think we were the Tigers the way some of us are carrying on.

Totally agree with everything you are saying here :thumbsu:

In both of our games after that dreadful afternoon at the MCG our boys have improved, despite all the injuries and stupid suspensions. They really are a gusty bunch.

Didn't expect a win last night, TBH, but I came away from the game feeling better than I thought I would.

:thumbsu: Agree - I didn't expect us to win either and while our game wasn't great, it wasn't a disaster either. Very pleased we kept trying.

McGrath, Clark and rich are seriously down on form compared to last year. Freo are awesome ATM and if they keep up this form they will most likely play Geelong or the saints in the grand final. Great effort for the lions to bring the game down to the last 5 mins. Stiller worked really hard all through out the game but he lacks the top gear, he missed the biggest chance we had of winning the game because he was exhausted. The umpires killed us a few times when we had the momentum, second quarter was painful to watch

Clark was out injured last night..

Agree with the title. Am really tired of the attitude around here after a loss. If you had've been offered a 4-3 start before the season began, I'm not sure you would have rejected it.

Excellent fightback by the boys last night. Glad to show they were hungry and wanted to battle for the win right through until it was beyond doubt.

Stellar effor Lions! Watching the game last night filled us with optimism for the rest of the year. All we seem to need is a smile from Lady Luck and we're in this season up to our eyeballs.
With our outs and injuries we could have been forgiven for capitulating, yet we really gutsed it out. Well done Lions!
The glass is three quarters full!

Yep I knew that, was just saying in general that 3 of our best players last year are down on form this year.

No worries. I think, to be fair to Mitch though, that he's improved as the weeks have passed. He was crook as a dog in Rd1 and took to the field a few minutes after yacking his guts up. He was sorely missed last night.

As for Rich, last night he had 21 disposals(6th), 5 tackles(3rd), 2 Goal Assists(Equal 1st) at 86% disposal efficiency(Equal 3rd). I think people have fallen into the trap of expecting too much of him. He was solid last night.

I think a lot of people, after out 4-0 start to the season, were expecting a pre-2005 like dominance again over the competition. That doesnt happen overnight. Our plays havent yet played much finals football plus we have a number of new players settling in. We seem to lack a yard or two of pace but it all comes down to the attitude. Great fightback by us at the end and thats because our attitude towards the football and the game improved.

Whatever happened to Tom Collier? He looked ok on debut a few years back, and appeared to have decent size for a kid, but I don't think I've seen him play that many games since? Is he in the picture at all for a recall?

How about the crowds this year?

Over 27 thousand for a game against Freo with all 14 of their supporters.

Our form will probably see the numbers drop down (disappointing with games against Geelong and Collingwood coming up) but once again AFL is ruling the Brisbane live sporting scene.

The effort on Saturday night was impressive, especially considering the pre-game injury list and the loss of 2 extremely important players in the 3rd quarter.

It's important to keep things in perspective - Freemantle are the real deal this season (even if their conversion rate was shocking!) and it was a pretty close result in the end.

Big positive for me in the way Leuie is going about his work - top effort again. And as for Simon Black, champion game from a champion player :thumbsu:

The umpires murdered us with some of the most one-sided, inconsistent, inept displays in the first half that I've seen for some time.

We went into the game without most of our big men - Merrett, Macguire, Patful, Clark & Charman, plus we lost two stars (Brennan & Drummond half way though the match), plus our two big forwards (Brown & Fevola) are both playing injured.

Freo should have absolutely flogged us, but couldn't kick straight. We can still take some credit for this since we never gave up on the pressure.

To be in a position in the final quarter when we could have drawn level with an ounce of luck, and then to lose by only 13 points, speaks volumes for the character of the Lions. If you want an example of a side that lacks that character, watch the final quarter of the Adelaide vs Richmond game last night.

Although I'm mightily peeved about losing (and about losing the last three games) I'm still pretty proud of the team.

McGrath in the forward line again, massive positive, I was so pleased to see him there.

same. mentioned it during the week i hope vossy moves mcgrath forward till he finds some form.

great effort to come back by the boys just a shame we keep having lapses at crucial parts of the game. we need to develop a killer instinct and bury teams when we have the chance instead of letting them get 5 goals up and clawing our way back.

shattered with all our injuries but the positive is it will force us to play a lot of kids which will fast track their development. hope a-corn, harwood & bartlett get games in the next few weeks.

hows retzlaff going? heard he played well last week not sure how he's been going before that.

Massive props to Leuey's heart on the weekend too. When he went down I was sure that was a knee, but he was up and about almost right away. The next centre bounce you could see the pain on his face and I was sure he would just concede the tap. But he didn't take a backwards step, charged straight into the contest and from memory won that tap as well.
