How bad is Whitnall?

You reckon?
Lance has enough history to suggest one or all were going to occur, especially given his preseason.

The club were confident in him based on last year's efforts, and at the time, I don't think anyone else was more worthy (well maybe except Kouta, but he gave up the position).

And his history had nothing to suggest a family feud would happen, even be taken to court btw.

I'd have traded him the minute his last contract was up.

Despite an excellent year?

As I said, easy to say this in hindsight but would you have thought the same at the time?

There was always a risk this would happen with Lance given his history, so having co-captains would have at least provided him with some 'cover' when things invariably went pear-shaped (pun intended).

You're right there. But there was always the chance he could continue his form, that weighed heavily on their minds no doubt. You have arguably the best leader from last year coming off a good season, the decision was clear. It's unfortunate Lance is down at the moment, I hope he improves and proves those naysayers wrong in the coming weeks.

Persoanlly I feel he should be rested if he doesn't improve soon, just to get over his knee trouble and any personal issues.

Best time to trade him - but didn't he re-sign at the end of 2005?

Yep.

Personally I feel the personal issues are an excuse for his poor form.

If that's not the case, then it's a sad reflection on his leadership qualities. There's a kid on your list that fronted up the week after his father died. You think him & his team-mates would feel for Lance's poor form because of a family Springer moment? Hardly.

You're right though, Carlton are pretty thin on the leadership front. It speaks volumes about Pagan - if he's not given natural leaders he doesn't foster them. When he reflects back on his time at the Roos he must feel like he was kissed on the Pratt.

Lance is a terrible captain and his 'because we had nobody else' appointment speaks volumes for the mindset still at Carlton. If ever a club was in need of spitting the role between multiple players, it was a club so devoid of leaders they had to make Lance Whitnall captain. Other clubs spilt the role because they feel there are several players as deserving (splitting the load simply helps lessen the individual responsibilities) but Carlton should have done it because they don't have a player outside Kouta capable of carrying out the role.

Dont worry. You have brad ottens. His next shocker is just around the corner. :thumbsu:

Ottens' bad games will still be better than anything Kingsley will produce this season. :thumbsu:

Whitnall had 10 possessions on Saturday night and had a shocker. Kingsley got 10 possessions in 4 games last year...combined.
