I think both incidents were the same. Both were high body hits. McPharlin was shaken. McDougall has a fractured jaw.

The MacDougall incident resulted in a goal to Freo when no decision was awarded.

The McPharlin incident resulted in a Freo free kick as WC was moving into 50 unopposed.

These grey little areas are something we shouldn't underestimate when considering the results of close matches.

exactly!

I wondered exactly the same thing.

And why wasn't Simmonds reported for the elbow to the throat
of Brauny when on the ground at the bottom of the pack?

Because If you watch the replay, while the contact was high on McDougall, that was because McDougall was falling to the ground and so it wasn't Hasleby's fault.

McPharlin on the other hand was standing up, and then high contact was made.

You can't complain about the umpires though. You got 23 free kicks to 17 and 5 goals from free kicks, compared to our 2.

Umpires did a good job, I hate it when the umpires favour us as it makes the wins ever so slightly less enjoyable.

To any objective observer the Margin flattered the E-girls bigtime.

*****head, the Eagles had more scoring shots than the dockers.

Inaccuracy cost them the game.

The margin flattered Fremantle.

The thing you conveniently forget that is if a goal is kicked (which onw was) the ball goes back to the middle for a ball up where it could be won by Freo (which it was) and taken down our end for a goal (which it was). You could have had another 15 shots on goal like those. ;)

:o

You can keep telling yourself that if it helps you sleep at night.

Leaving aside all this childish bickering, on the night in real time (which is all the umpires are allowed to base it on) I thought the correct decision was made in the McDougall/Haselby clash (ie play on) and thought it was lineball whether a free kick should be paid against McIntosh for high contact. It certainly wasn't reportable and of course the report was subsequently withdrawn.

Not worth arguing about it now.

No free kick there at all, but I just loved the way Hase treated Macdougal with contempt by skipping over his prostrate body before passing it to Simmonds. MacDougal probably should have marked the incoming ball, then he never would have got clobbered by the fearsome Haselby.

I thought it was there.

He backed into a pack and got clobbered in the head. You've got to reward blokes who put their body on the line, it's in the spirit of the game.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

True, he was backing back into a pack but he basically fell into Hasleby's arm. Hasleby didn't change his direction to hit McDougall, it was purely accidental, and as a result of McDougall falling.
