Thread probably been done 100 times but how did you end up following Carlton? I was simply taught that the Blues were the only team to follow, otherwise I wouldn't be a part of my family, so ever since I can remember I've been Carlton...

Almost my entire family are Carlton supporters and so I guess I was pushed into it, and to this day I wouldn't have it any other way. :D

What about everyone else? Were you pushed into Carlton?

I think it was 1994. I was 7 and early in the season my Eagles (as every kid, followed the winner!) lost to Carlton. Dunno why but I took a liking to them and haven't stopped since. The Eagles won the premiership so hey, I'm not a bandwagoner ;)

I was 11years old and Grade 5 if I remember, I was listening to Essendon vs Collingwood (I was an Essendon supporter) and Essendon got smashed and I remember running inside crying and told that she was to buy a Carlton jumper on the Monday.

The reason for being an Essendon up until then was my older brother and 2 of his friends that lived in the same street barrack for them.

In other words I was brainwashed by them (My dad barracks for Geelong).

The reason I didn't barrack for Collingwood because I didn't like them.

I was called a traiter at school when I told them that I changed but I always said if you change before for 13th birthday thats alright.

I have been a member of the Blues for the past 15years now.

GO BLUES

(I HOPE I DIDN'T RAMBLE ON TO MUCH)

I was born... then I was a Carlton fan.

Everyone in my family was a Carlton fan and my Dad married my mother partially because she was a Carlton supporter. There was a period that I considered supporting another team... but then I was rightly beaten. :thumbsu: Not really, but honestly... Fremantle?!?!

Moved to Australia when I was 4, and at my school was assigned a 'buddy' on my first day. He assured me there was no other team worth supporting except the mighty blues, and their star Silvagni. I had no choice but to concur

I'm a 2nd generation Carlton supporter.

Strangely, my dad starting following the VFL in the late 70s/early 80s in North Queensland. I'm certain he got talked into it by his brother in-law. But how the brother in-law got into it is a mystery. I can't imagine the VFL having much publicity in North Queensland at the time... Then again, Rugby League was hardly the bee's knees either.

After my parents got married (on the day of the 82 Grand Final ), they moved to Melbourne to find work. I can only imagine my dad grew more fond of the Blues whilst living relatively close.

I was the 2nd son born into the family (1985). By the time I was old enough to understand sport, my dad and my brother were already full time Carlton supporters. I wouldn't say I had no choice. But why not support the Blues? The whole family does, plus they kick arse! :thumbsu:

In the early 90s the family moved up to Sydney for work related reasons. Sydney wasn't as hostile to footy as it is now, but it wasn't Melbourne either. It's funny, but I hadn't even heard to Rugby League until then. Even still, I've always tried to like Rugby, even to the point of pretending to like it. But the game is just lacking in so many ways I wouldn't know where to start. Not that it mattered. Australian Football was the only game for me.

4th generation blues fan.
2nd and 3rd generation both played for the mighty blues.
Had few family members on boards, etc.
Had no choice really

I've alway followed Glenelg in the SANFL (I know, I know....) and had Stephen Kernahan's name and number on the back of my duffel coat that I'd wear EVERYWHERE!!! When he moved over to Carlton for the '86 season I, being an impressionable 13 year old, merely followed. Haven't regretted it for a day since. Most of my mates still don't understand whay I didn't jump over the the Crows when they came in. The poor buggers just don't get it....

mum and dad. that's how it should be. i can never understand a family that has members following different teams.

I agree whole heartedly. My dad is, as am I, as are my daughters, step daughter and wife.

Mind you my grand parents we Collingwood supporters. Pa had polio and whilst walked well would have found keeping my day and brother under control at the footy so their kind neighbour Nancy took them to the footy for him. Little did they know she brainwashed both into Carlton supporters before they could protest.:D

Dad - Collingwood
Brother - Collingwood
Grandfather - Essendon
Grandfather - Geelong
Uncle - Collingwood
Uncle - Hawthorn
Uncle - Essendon
Son (in time) - Carlton. Or else he will be placed in the reeds

You and your family haven't always lived in Queensland, am I right?

Reasonably typical situation, just followed my folks who were both Carlton supporters. The came to Australia in 1972 and my Dad and Uncle started barracking for Carlton because they wear blue, just like Glasgow Rangers!

Anyway, my Uncle jumped ship with Jezza and has barracked for St Kilda ever since! His loss.

Dad= Geelong (Come out from Italy in 63')
Mum= Essendon (Her Dad was Essendon)
Sister= Richmond (Neigbours influence)
2 Brothers= Essendon (Neigbours influence + we live in the area)

I am a 4th generation Carlton supporter. My grandfather and his father grew up in Carlton. I was told at the age of two and a half that if I didn't support Carlton I could go find another home. I was lucky, as at the time I was old enough to understand what was going on around me which was during 1994-1995, Carlton were a gun side! Since then I've rode the highs and the lows. Since 1997 I've only missed 8 or so games in Melbourne which is something I'm proud of. When we are back where we belong it'll be one hell of a good feeling.:)

Having been raised with no father figure i knew nothing of football until i moved from the country to Launceston aged around 7 ..where i met some kids who dragged me along to York Park to watch some footy one day ..I loved it..I asked which team we were going for and they said the red and black ones (North Launceston) so later i grabbed a newspaper and selected teams from all parts of the state ..where i went for all the ones who wore red and black ...when i got to the VFL section ...i did a complete backflip and picked Carlton ...because i liked the name ...phew ...How lucky was i

I converted my first wife from Collingwood to Carlton ..and then remarried a Carlton supporter ...I now have 5 kids who are all proud Carlton supporters :thumbsu:

Watched the blues when i was 8-9 because i got pushed into it by a family member and only follow the best team.. the mighty blues!

I was lucky enough to be born into a Carlton mad family. All 6 members that live under this roof are passionate Carlton supporters (well .. not really my mum .. but she knows we wear navy blue :thumbsu:).

As for how it all began, when my grandparents came from Greece, my father grew up in the Carlton commission flats. He quickly became a passionate Blue bagger.

And so the legacy lives on ..... GO BLUESSSS
