Almost been in the same residence for 4 years and a credit company keeps sending mail to previous resident despite numerous 'return to sender' letters going back.

They say that they wont stop until the former resident informs them of a change of address. They say that they do have systems that will eventually see an end to the mail being sent.

I am wondering if I will be still getting the mail in 2020.

Any ideas, preferably sensible, on how I can end this mail arriving?

(I do not have a forward address or contactable details of former resident)

Tell them you'll report them for harassment. Seriously if it's gone to Dunn & Bradstreet just call them and tell them the previous resident has buggered off, it worked for me (took 12 months though).

I had that problem at my last place, first I started just sending them back RTS, but after a few months, I opened a letter & rang the company & informed them the previous tenant was long gone. I gave them the RE agent number to confirm what I had said, a week later no more mail.

I was a renter, if you acutaully have purchased the house, tell them to ring your bank to confirm that you are the owner.

I live in an apartment and I get mail for 3 or 4 different people. I did the R.T.S for a few months until it became unviable. I just toss them straight in the bin, their own problem if they can't identify important things to update.

Former residents can pay the peanuts for a ****ing redirection service or get nothing at all for all I care. I always got my stuff re-directed, anything that arrived addressed to a former residence I changed myself, it's my shit, my duty. I expect other people to feel the same way about their property and not rely on someone else to fix their lazyness over and over.

We get mail from 4-5 different people. At first we tried RTS, but it didn't really seem to work, so now we just literally have 100 or so letters just in a draw. Just really cbf doing anything about it now.

opening someone else's mail is a criminal offence and I am reporting you to the FBI.

Call up aus post and tell them this resident no longer lives here. They will fix it up

Yeh, RTS for however long you can be ****ed doing it, and if after a reasonable time period the person or company sending the mail has not bothered to alter the mailing address then just stick it in the bin. They can't care too much if they still haven't changed the mailing address. I've got better things to do than go all the way to the mailbox with someone elses mail because they're too slack to do anything about it.

It's always handy as an alternative to toilet paper if you've run out though.

Have the same problem and it's been over TEN years. Tried to do the right thing and RTS with no success. Now walk from letterbox to bin - not my problem.

Same here mate. Me and my family moved from Adelaide to Brisbane in January 2002 and we are still getting letters for the previous owners (and even the ones before that!). When Christmas comes we'll get more cards for the previous owners lol.

Christmas cards aren't the ones that bother me. I get heaps of book club offers and shit that they've been registered on an automated mailing list for. The people sending the shit out don't care, as it's just a way for them to distribute their shit. The people who the mail is sent to don't care obviously as it's often just pointless rubbish. Therefore, the problem continues.

I keep getting summons for the previous tennents. I tried getting the courts to realise the error but it never worked. They go in the recycling bin nowadays.

Bin for me too. Ive been here over 5 years for the first year or 2 i did return to sender and spoke to the local post office directly to tell them but they still kept delivering them. If people cant be bothered to change their address then they mustn't want the mail.

No they won't, they're not allowed to. (I owned a Post Office up until a couple of years ago). The mail has to be delivered as addressed.

You will generally find that the junk from credit companies, book clubs etc is all automatically generated. If you do RTS they do nothing about it as it cost more/is more time consuming to go and manually change things.

Just chuck them in the bin.
