How do we combat a flood?

You think? I reckon Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Collingwood are the worst. When we played Richmond in NAB cup they played a very open game.

From what I've seen, other teams vary depending on the team their playing. Every team should flood Geelong and Western Bulldogs.

The saints coach lyons has bought the sydney playbook to moorabbin also

Pinpoint accurate kicks into the 50 that hit their targets (or try to)?

Just a thought.

You are actually spot on in my book. The innability of our midfielders to hit forward targets with thier terrible disposal, coupled with thier refusal to go in hard and win clearances are the reasons the flood is so effective against Geelong.

Yep, but that's why I posed the question, how do we combat it WITH THE PLAYERS WE HAVE. Coming up to the Hawks game this week, who may flood, with the players that we have, with ordinary disposal quite often, how do we combat the flood?
Our disposal won't fix up overnight... so how do we win without relying on pinpointing passes?

Coach's dilemma. Not as easy as it sounds, hey?

Kick it to Tommahawk!!

In all seriousness though, we need genuine crumbers in the forward line so the opposition aren't gifted the ball when it comes to ground and we need our midfielders to hit targets in the forward line.

Accurate kicking for goal is also vital.

This week I'd like to see Hunt floating around the wings & HF, Wojak having a few pings at goal along with Chapman. I like to see prismall used as a bit of a quarter back also.

I think few strategic victories early in the game can really throw the flooding team out of whack.

A few strong contested pack marks by Otto, Nabblet, Mooney or Tom will cause the hawks to shif a couple of players as loose men sitting in front of the leaders. This'll free up some space for goals from the midfielders/halfbacks.

Alternatively if some of the midfielders can slto a few from outside fifty in the first term then the reverse happens and it'll free up space for the big boys.

Its important they we're flexible, move the ball fast to beat the flood and hit leading targets or bomb long to a goalsquare 1on1. But recongise that you cant always move the ball that fast and when there is a flood on, dont, dont ,dont bomb it in to a forward line with 4 tall targets and 18 defenders. Be patient and drop players into space behind the leading forwards.

Work very hard all day, move the ball quickly, and kick accurately to leading targets...

Like the sound of that. Pris almost to take over Hunts role of delivery from HB... Like it alot. Designated kicker to receive the handballs off Ling, Blake, King etc.

Prismal's disposal has been terrible so far... why would you want him being a play maker? His strength is his hardness at the ball, not his disposal. A guy with good disposal is worth their weight in GOLD, certaintly to Geelong at the moment... and simply, we have none other than Hunt. And I'm talking flat pin-point kickers, not powder puff Enright rain makers.

Are you sure about that? Have we been watching the same games? I have seen a couple of clangers, but from memory, his disposal has generally been very good. Sometimes I'd call it silky.

I recall the handball to Varcoe against Carton where he beat 2 players and dished it out under pressure to make something from nothing. That was pretty Silky.
