Great post bigstyletiger. We are pretty covered all over ground and thanks to injuries in recent years we now have great depth at almost every position. It's going to be hard for blokes like King, Pattison, Raines, Polo, Connors, Hughes etc.. to get into the side, which will only make the ones who really want to make it, better players.

Although I dont quite share your sense of trust in Dennis Commetti's opinion. This is the bloke who continually bags Richo, afterall.

We also have a PSD pick in which i hope we take another ruckman or a small forward and we will take a few rookies.
good (jaydyn)post.
but i would like us to go for ruckmen in the rookie draft and go for Sibasado. would be rapt if we get him.

Post has Craig Cameron written all over him. He's a great mark, ok movement but no genuine class and has poor disposal. He didn't make Vic Metro's squad and was seemingly picked early.
Actually, he was in the mix for Hawthorn's first pick, was too old for the u/18 champs and is a good kick.

I've stated before that we were deplorable at turning our list over in recent years. We kept mediocre players ...
I've also lamented CAC's lack of draft picks over the years. And when he had them they were invariably average selections.
I'd be disappointed that you only had 3 picks (2 decent ones) in arguably the strongest draft ever.
I've had the same concerns about RFC, even before CC's appointment. We hang onto crap for too long then get nothing for them (Meyer et al). We never trade for draft picks (but always trade picks for players) and apart from 2004, always seem to take the minimum number of picks.

We ended up with a genuine ruckman with very good mobility, great mark and elite tap to advantage ratio
A kpp only 1cm shorter than McKernan who's the best mark in the TAC
A Top 20 midfielder from the 2006 superdraft
Plus one more kid to come

I am torn between what I percieve as a lack of X factor from this draft, and the fact that we have drafted for need very very well.

Vickery was the perfect choice. We just had to take him. Ziebell would have been a great addition, even though he doesnt have a huge amount of toe....just a gun footy player and he will make it at AFL level or I have no clue about footy. Vicks tho is an A+ player and can only credit the staff for taking him...

Post however...just not so sure. Being able to take contested marks at Tac Level is good, he certainly looks to be all around GOOD....i just wonder if he stands out in any area. Still it has to be good to get good players. good good good ...

Hislop is one of my two dissapointements in this draft, purely because I dont like recycling players. But hey Gary Ablett Snr was 'recycled' and he was the best footy player ever. Greg Williams wasnt to bad either. Maybe hislop was the best choice, but just not as exciting as I would have hoped for.

Only taking 3 players...hmmm. I know Adam Thomsen is our 3rd round pick....and I can only go on PA's supporters objections to trading him to think he may be a very good addition.

I think there are four players here who have a high chance of playing a lot of senior footy....that's what you want from a draft.

The other great thing is that we have addressed a major weaknesses in our list. Forwards and ruckmen.

But I still wish we had taken a big X factor player...speedy and skillful....

Overall grade. B+ or A- I just cant decide

I think we did OK...addressed a serious list need with Vickery and it's a big bonus that he already has an association with the club. At face value it's risky spending a top-10 pick on a ruck/forward who's already had a knee reco, but he's very talented and we obviously think he's worth the risk. I'm prepared to back that decision.

From what little I've seen of him, Post has potential, a good attitude and will suit our gameplan - plenty to work with.

Hislop and Thomson are both good value and add a bit more bite and depth to our midfield and quite possibly the backline. I thought Hislop was overrated slightly when originally drafted (purely on his ability, not attitude), but he has talent and will immediately push for selection, unlike the typical pick #58. I suspect we'll have a look at him down back at senior level.

Overall, pretty solid draft, would have been nice to grab McCulloch too, but with the PSD pick and the rookies to come, there's still some good talent on offer.

I was disapointed to miss out on Sibosado and I agree with Glitch about the lack of X factor.

I think picking up Walters would have solved this and I would be rapt to have him instead of Hislop.

In Jackson and Cameron's defense (not to say i 100% agree with them) i think we have drafted players and put together a list that doesn't have many guys who drift in and out of games. i think they are trying to put together a team that will be able to win contested football for 4 quarters.

I'm guessing that we will use the rookie list to try and develop a player or two with x.

Also in Jackson and Cameron's defense i think they drafted guys who they are pretty sure will play AFL footy rather than going for possible super stars later on in the draft. the reason for this would be to insure we are not relying on the compromised drafts to keep us competitive.

Perhaps we were looking to sure up the list and then take a bit of a punt while we are being skull rap&d by the gold coast and west sydney.

Yeah, but we've done the same thing the last few years and it's worked well. Pass on the last pick and invite 4 or 5 kids to tain for the summer. Pick the best of them.

That's how we got Thursfield. We could have gone and picked Roury Kirkby with our last pick instead (yes, who?)

I think passing on our last pick is a wise decision.

Wise comment that and I totally agreee with u. :thumbsu:

club says was going to draft ruck with 70 bris jumped 1st if we lucky can get subascio in psd x factor or the extra ruck they wanted in the 1st place

Im happy with Vickery, even though I did prefer Ziebell.
Don't know enough about Post to say whether he'll be a good player or not. Seems to be a good mark and helps 'fill' a need.
Hislop i don't understand and passing on pick 70 was peculiar as well.
If the recruiters say that they didnt think the draft was deep enough at 70 and would like to get a few kids to train with them to make up their mind in the PSD, then why didn't they do their homework earlier?
Surely they would should have all options covered.

good couldve bin better,

Vickery and Post fill list needs and I certainly rate both of them higher than McKernan. When Trengrove was slippinbg i was really hoping hed last a few more picks but cant expect it all, Post has the tools to be a powerful KPF.

Wasnt happy we took hislop at 58, was actually filthy abt it but the more i think about it the more I think it might be a reasonable pick. Love his attack on the ball runs direct and through the play not around it, if his application is there Im confident we'll have a winner with him.

Not happy we only took 3 players, feel our list is not that good to warrant minimum selections at draft time, we should be turning over more.

hope Vickery turns into a player, Im not generally a fan of taking ruckmen early.

You do know we still have another pick to go...don't you?

I don't think a lot of supporters are aware of this.....especially on one particular site, all they do is have a dig at the club, no matter what.

Another thing to note is that next year's draft will not have much depth because the cut off age will be reduced. Given we didn't make the calls this year, next year surely will have a decent player cull. We will have to replace them with players in a shallow draft. Not a smart process IMO.

um yes:rolleyes:

i stand by my comments, i felt we couldve and more importantly shouldve delisted a few more

Every year i realise more and more, how much of a lottery this thing is.

Judging now is ridiculous, other than recycled players...and even that is narrow minded.

I said average

I am stocked we got Vickery at 8 however I would have preffered McKernnan to Post. My only real dissapointment is that we picked up Tom Hislop. I'm am puzzled about this.
