How does Shaun Grigg escape criticism?

I think anybody who makes time to come on BigFooty and talk about their club can't be too unloyal. Id be more likely to call it passionate
Some supporters constantly bag the same players every week, regardless of form, and even when the players aren't playing. That is not passion, that is self serving obsession.

For some it is all about making an impact on the boards and less about looking for a solution to our problems.

Then there are those that know players personally and dislike them and other still who aren't actually supporters and misrepresent themselves. There is a fair bit of dishonesty and a lack of flexibility and objectivity on the boards sometimes.

seriously guys.... don't judge someone performance on a supercoach ranking... it's embarassing... go to game or watch the game then comment...

Yeah thanks for that...I was at the game...I mentioned the ranking only to illustrate his efficiency as a previous poster outlined in response the the original posters comment that he is crap. I was impressed with his game today and thought he actually used his body to advantage on several occassions. There were several Blues Members around me that also commented positively on his game.

Again players like Grigg are the future of the club. I cannot see for any reason why he should be dropped, in paticular for an ageing player like Saddington who has done very little since arriving at the club and is only going ok in the 2's.

I certainly am not saying that constructive comments or criticism should be eliminated from the board but just more realistic ones to players who are at the 50-100+ game mark and consistently turning the ball over like Carrazzo did today. Every team has a few youngsters in the 16-22 ranked player mark and such silly comments as the original poster gave would not happen at many other clubs for players in this category.

Wow Sublime, you're a mind reader now.
It's called perceived pressure.
How else do you go from kicking one 2 weeks ago against Collingwood when he was under more pressure and further out, to missing one yesterday.

Players miss goals, it's as simple as that. Fevola missed one right on 3/4 time that h would kick 9 times out of 10, and JR kicked into the man on the mark in the same quarter.

I'm not sure if you were at the game yesterday, but the wind was getting into the 'G, and really swirling around, which meant goal kicking was always going to be hard.

Not even going to bother. He was running into an open goal, it had to be kicked. We're not talking about other peoples missed opportunities, just this one. If he was shitting himself so much from this perceived pressure (something thats in someones head and not actually there) then he quite simply shouldn't be playing senior football.

It is pretty harsh write off a 20 year old who has played 7 games within the equal worst team in our clubs history.
He wasn't our worst on Saturday and has been in our best 50% a couple of times this season.
As for someone opting for Saddington ahead of Grigg why would you think it makes any sense to play somebody who isnt part of our future? That would serve no purpose whatsoever except to keep us locked in the doldrums of the past 5 years. If Ratten is serious about the future then Saddington, Wiggins and Ackland should consider themselves lucky if they get to do a lap of honour prior to our last game this year.

Without writing a player off after 1 year in the system, but I also see a lot of JR 2006 & 2007 about Grigg. I understand the whole inside/outside mid and rebounding defender/defensive HFF concepts and a teams need for all, but I cannot, at this stage, see where Grigg will fit into our team. Negatives - Doesn't seem to have the balls to attack a contest, for an outside type player his footskills are extremely poor (helicopters/floaters and a complete lack of penetration in his kicking), tackling has been as weak as piss in 2008 and his decision making leaves a lot to be desired i.e always looks paniked. I thought Grigg's miss in the 3rd quarter was the turning point of the game.
Positives - Good size for AFL and seems to have decent speed, he finds plenty of the ball and is still young. I just don't see that much upside ATM. Hope he proves me wrong.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: Spot on. The Carlton board on BF is quickly deteriorating into the kid bashing board :thumbsd::thumbsd:....as you say in the worst performed team of the last 3 years. FFS, kids take 50 AFL games before they start to hit their straps, judge them more accurately then. I'm already enjoying the JK naysayers having to eat their humble pie :)

The real reason why people bag players on this board is that there are too many posters that are one eyed and see every player through rose coloured glasses. When we lose week in week out and year in year out, it is ssssoooo frustrating to hear people praise players that are too slow and don't have the basic skills to play the game

Find me one passage of play Grigg was involved in yesterday that was of AFL standard?

I agree. Grigg's skills are not up to AFL standard. Can't believe he was a high draft pick (19 for memory)

Hadley will be back next week, Bentick did enough to retain his spot. Not rocket science ;)

I agree. Bentick is too slow and with other slow players in the midfield (Stevens, Judd at the moment), we cannot have him in the side. Hadlee is important to us

He missed a goal, big deal. Players do it. It's one passage of play within the hundreds that occur in any game.

Boys Grigg is good, any job he is given he does satisfactorily. Similar to Sam Gilbert and if he got more game time (as Gilbert does) he would impress. It is hard to get into a match if you're not on the field enough.

Hadley isn't exactly fast, you've just got it in your mind that Bentick is a dud and no matter how well he performs (within reason) there is always someone you would rather have.

Agree- Hadlee is not express but Bentick is super slow.

I would bet that anyone defending Grigg was not at the game today, and I don't understand how he does escape critcism.

All I hear from the crowd is people slamming Russell. Sure he made several critical mistakes, but he also showed abit and had a fair crack.

Grigg's intensity rivals Houlihan, he isn't willing to put his body on the line enough. The only time I saw him attempt to shepard he stuffed that up too. Need a spell in the magoos to learn that games aren't handed out freely.

The reason the crowd slam Russell more is a) he has had many many more opportunities b) he was a slighty higher draft pick c) because he shows nothing and grigg atleast shows something

I guess practically BOG in the first half against Adelaide is nothing

But if those same people wearing rose coloured glasses can admit when a player has a shocker, why can't the detractors admit when a player has done well?

You're the last person to comment anyway. You don't have a lot of credibility on this issue.

It was interesting, about 30 seconds after Grigg missed his sitter the very experienced Goodwin did the exact same thing at the other end.....guess what folks, players are fallible, sh*t happens. ;)

Tell ya what, its easy to get a few bites around here these days... Its just no fun when ya don't have to try anymore :D

Admit it Sublime. You don't think Grigg is up to senior footy just yet. It's not about getting bites  :p

Anyone can see he just isn't up to it yet. The sad fact is that we don't have anyone to come in for him. I just really don't like watching players who aren't ready running around. Oh and about the bites, its easy to overemphasise something in order to get a reaction around here...

Grigg has been pretty handy yet far from staring, kicking action is a bit odd but there isn't much wrong with people with that style although they often can't kick a low pass. He doesn't seem to turn the ball over a lot IMO. Needs to spend time in the gym and we need to wait for him to fill out, he can find the footy a bit and as a young player it's a pretty good effort to be a good honest player at AFL level, will get better, just how better is the question...

Re-Visit this one.. I haven't been on BigFooty for over a month so I'll say that the game I was at (West Coast) I watched Grigg and still wasn't sold on him but last week vs Freo I thought he finally showed something and could be turn into something
