It doesn’t really matter, you’d need to go through every single decision and non decision throughout every second of the game to find out which team benefited more. At the end of the day it’s irrelevant, players made more mistakes than the umps.

The reason it’s irrelevant is because it cannot now be changed, but I take your point.

They quoted a study in the media as justification for the change.

Not my bias or opinion, documented fact it will be in newspaper and video records of that time.
Yes.

What I mean is they can't use data to show the impact of a change, that's got to be theory based.

They could have used data to show that increased rotations meant more sprinting and data to show that sprinting meant more injuries and whether that would likely outweigh the fatigue factor.

I get what you mean and the theory behind that is sound.

However.

Even by that stage the VFL/AFL had been 'tampering' with the rules for some time - the first I can remember is the 'Kevin Bartlett' rule.

He was a great player but when he was under pressure he was addicted to hovering over the ball without quite taking possession and milking the free.

They changed the rules to bring him back to the field.

The central thrust of the rules committee is to level the playing field in both individual player and team tactics mode.

Whenever an individual or team finds an exploit in the always poorly drafted rules and rises above the competition for an extended time the rules committee goes to work.

There was never any other intention with the rotation rule than to bring St scum and the Pies back in line - no matter what the bs justification.

Don't we receive the most free kicks in recent years?
That was part of Buckley’s strategy, play within the boundaries of the game disciplined football. All the best teams play on the edge and ‘unsociable football’. That was my one criticism of his coaching tenure.

I can recall the Anzac Day game when the media were calling out the umpires for the one sided free kick count in our favour. The umpires reviewed the game and acknowledged that we should have received additional free kicks. That is my feeling most weeks, but especially in grand finals when it counts most!!!

Calvin Ridley of the Atlanta Falcons banned by the NFL for an entire year for betting a total of $1,500 on games, including his own team’s games in multis.

I mentioned it back then, but I actually witnessed Stevo putting on those bets pre game. It wasn’t online.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t the only bets he had placed on AFL.
