I can't help but notice that a lot of the media, not to mention the buffoons on bigfooty seem to think that west coast are wooden spoon favorites this year. I certainly don't think thats the case, but i'm curious to think what everyone else's expectations for this season are- ladderwise. Where will we finish?

Better than the majority of opposition supporters think.

Not as good as the majority of our fans think.

Simple really :)

For my money, as high as 10th or 11th.... but as low as it goes too :( All depends on so many factors.

Just looking for improvement :)

EF :)

btw Mead- welcome to bigfooty :) but the majority of people here know far more about footy than the rest of us ever will, and are pretty reasonable people. 'Buffoons' isn't really giving them the respect they deserve :) Cheers & enjoy your stay.

Wooden Spooner

The wooden spoon for 2002 will go to the Kangaroos. Mark it down. Not even the Eagles slid that far that fast. 1999 Premiers, 2000 Pounded in preliminary final, 2001 13th...

Mead from my point of view there are some good signs out in the West. Maybe not this year but you will be back again with the youth that is coming through the club now. Thank god you got rid of Cummings to Collingwood because they deserve him.

I pick from 9th to 11th....we are on the up regardless os what the media say as well as the Vics....

Our first improvement came when KJ was booted....

Good to see a couple of other club supporters are able to come here and vote and have a real opinion instead of this "I hate WC" mentality......Thanks guys :D

Thanks for the welcome.. The buffoons remark wasn't entirely serious, and all in good fun. I was saying 'buffoons' the way they say 'showpony' when referring to ben cousins- jokingly and to mask the respect i no doubt feel :)

We can 'hope' to sneak into the 8 and with an injury free season and a few young players taking a big step up it is possible. Just the same though a string of injuries and young players not standing up may bring a bottom four finish.

But my bet is 10th.

Realistically 9th - 13th.
As long as we show marked improvement in both the way we play as a team and show desire and passion to win again, I'll be reasonably happy. :)

KANGAROOS FOR THE WOODEN SPOON! YOU ARE KIDDING SURELY.HAS THE SUN AFFECTED YOUR BRAIN CELLS ACROSS THE NULLABOR.THEY WILL FINISH A LOT HIGHER THAN THE EAGLES OR FREO THIS YEAR MARK MY WORDS
NOT MUCH TO CHEER ABOUT IN W.A THIS YEAR THATS FOR SURE!

My pick is 7-9th. Other teams have produced the same kinds of turnarounds in recent times and I think we are now on the way up.
My pick for positions this year.
Lions - 1
Port - 2
Hawthorn -3
Richmond -4
Essendon -5
Collingwood -6
Sydney -7
WCE -8
Adelaide-9
Carlton -10
North -11
Freo -12
Bulldogs -13
Geelong -14
Saints -15
demons -16

The only teams I see finishing below the eagles are Geelong and Melbourne.
Home wins against these and the odd out of the hat trick will see the eagles win 6-7 games maximum.

I don't think Fremantle will finish ahead of us. I honestly believe that not only we have a better coach than the dockers but we also have a better team. First it's hard to contest that we have a stronger midfield than the dockers and knowing how good Woosha is at organising defenses, I suspect we'll have a better defense too. In theory their attack is stronger but if we control the midfield they won't be able to hurt us. In addition I think we have the potential to be more consistent than Freo which will be walking on egg shells once the season starts because of the pressure to be successful after so many disappointments in the past.

Now about where we will finish in the ladder I think we will surprise a lot of people. Some may say that our two victories in the Wizard cup means nothing for the real season, but the fact is that not only we got wins but they were also fairly good and I think we are in our way up. I am confident that we will get a lot better and will be hard to beat at least at home. Call me too optimistic but my feeling is that we will make the finals.

i like jod23's thinking, work out who you can beat....

IMO) we are better than Melbourne, Geelong, Freo, Saints, more than likely the Dogs and Roos and quite possibly the pies, who I think are over-rated something chronic. Their midfield is thread-bare ... Buckley granted, Betheras looks good, Burns when fit, but the rest, please. Their "gun youngster" Didak has no inkling of a right foot and IMO has been no where near the player of Kerr or even Fletch. but enough about them, just had to get that off my chest.

As far as the other end of the table goes, whoever has the least injuries out of Brisbane, Port, Essendon and Hawthorn, which makes it a lot like last year ..... But honestly, they were a cut above everyone else last year, and I don't think that much has changed to warrant thoughts of a different kind, with the one footnote being that Ottens has the potential to beat any team by himself, making RIchmond some sort of danger...

today's vic papers said that Gaspar and Siera played a half last week in the WAFL and are likely to return v Essendon, as well as Phil.

It's good to see you all making your predictions and it's good that you're prepared to put your thoughts in print now rather than bragging after the event.

In summary it appears that most on this site reckon you will come in around 10 or 11 and better depending on the injury factor. This will be with about 10 wins.

Your across town rivals reckon that they will be happy with 8 wins as a minimum, and that would put them on last years ladder about 13th.

Ok that's been recorded for posterity.

Geonet reckons that Freo might be walking on eggshells due to expectations, I find that interesting as the coach and people on this website have said they need to consolidate first and finals are not to be thought of this year. Whereas your people are openly saying we can make the finals if all goes well. Overall I don't think much will really be expected of either team this year (improvement yes), but if anything you are putting the pressure on Woosha by expecting close to finals action.

The first 5 weeks of the regular season will give us a clearer picture.

is that good or bad???

Gaspar - good
Sierra - haven't had a chance to see yet
Joey - good
Embley - good
Carroll - well hopefully we won't need to use him so much this year
Harding - why did we keep him?

So pretty much, good because a lot of our current regulars and players of the future are getting a game.

I think we ought to give Harding a chance. I thought he was bad last year but I didn't know he suffered a serious ankle injury pre-season. It is possible (if only just) that he will be a good player for us now his ankle is fixed up.

Interesting about who will Ruck. Neither Cox or Gardy are going so I guess Sierra, Gaspar, Tuckey will be rotated. Still, maybe our midfielders need some practice against a dominant ruckman, reading the opposition taps!!
