Yes that may well be the case. I said possibly. What your saying is he did barrack for them at one stage. This year could have also brought his support back to life. Winning Premierships would tend to do this but you can understand his heartbreak as a one time Geelong fan when your team lost 4 grand finals in 7 years. Wouldn't we all be shattered too?AngelEyes - Dangerfield was asked if he supported Geelong and he said no that he doesn't. He said they broke his heart too many times when he was younger so he stopped barracking for them. At one stage he and his family were holidaying and the Holland boys were staying next to them. He then started to barrack for them when they were playing. Since they stopped playing he hasn't followed any team.
My point was less about the who he barracked for and more about his life, family and friends. Surely, most of us would love to stay at home with our family, friends, lifestyle etc. Wouldn't you? I think 99% of players would prefer to stay at home and Geelong is his home and secondly Victoria is his home. Geelong also have a huge involvement with Geelong U18 - players often help run training etc.
I have no doubt that like most players he would prefer to stay home and saying I'm not going to go interstate because of school is a pretty good way to lower your value a few places. He may have had a promise at 17 from Geelong. Would you try this stay at home? I would but unfortantely, it didn't work. With all due respect even the Melbourne teams that had selections between Adelaide and Geelong would be more appealing to most players from Geelong as its a short drive to your family and friends.
Oberon is a crap hole of a school and it doesn't make sense when he could be educated for free at a good private school in Adelaide under the AFLPA's education thingy.
