How many A graders do we have?

I think we compare favourably at the top end, they are better in the rest of the 22.

McPharlin over Reid
Ballantyne over Beams

Ball over Lower
Didak over Palmer
H O'brien over MJ
Maxwell over Duffield
Tarrant over Grover
Sidebottom over Roberton
H Shaw over Ibbotson
Blair over van Berlo
Davis over Crowley
Toovey over Crichton
Dawes and Cloke even with McPhee and Mayne
Fyfe and Thomas even

Some may be a little contentious, but I think it pretty well sums up where we are. That is, we need 3 to 4 players who can step up a grade: C to B grade or B to A grade.

pendles and pav compared as mids would go to pendlebury

in general the problem is some of those pies players shit all over their counterparts.

didak and palmer are poles apart
ball and lower not even in the same league

on the flipside our 'wins' arent a whole lot better

Pavlich,Sandilans,Mundy and Fyfe are definate A-Graders with the latter 2 absolute stars who i love watching play this great game.
Barlow and Hill will join that category next year.
Pitt will join the elite status after about 50 games under his belt.

I'm really impressed with the dockers and think they will challenge for the flag in 2012 and beyond when their younger players gain another pre-season and Morabito is back in the wings.

I think for our style of play means McPhee and Mayne are even with C&D - eg Mayne leading forward for tackles, etc. However C&D play the more traditional role much better. I think the pressure created by those two 'talls' is going a long way to getting us up the ladder.I actually put Mayne ahead of both and Mcphee behind both, which was the other reason for combining them together.

I think if you took C&D out of Collingwood they would be no better than average around the league.

I think this is getting a bit ahead of itself. We should be comparing ourselves to Collingwood in 2009, not now. All things being equal Collingwood will probably win another flag this year, which shouldn't worry us because we're still developing. Next year the window opens, hopefully for about 4 years (although we will need a couple of young big bodies to come on).

On the A-grader issue, the interesting question is how many will we have in 2012/13 if our most talented young guns all develop as looks likely and Sandi, Pav and McPharlin stay on the park? My guess is, more than the rest of the comp.
