Very interesting piece in the West Australian newspaper today, with the statistics from the Australian one day series compared to their past performances. Some I'd like to highlight

The 3 standouts which alarmed me the most were Shane Warne, Mark Waugh and Adam Gilchrist.

You have to remember that we were facing West Indies and Zimbabwe in the one-day series last season. Very piss easy competetion.

This time we were facing South Africa and New Zealand. Much harder and our results suffered.

Don't get too excited after one series, we will have a clearer picture after the SA and Zimbabwe series. Everyone can have a bit of a form slump!

i think the thing that made our performances so much worse, was the fact that our two opening batsmen performed so far below standard, which meant that is just about every match, we lost a couple of early wickets - setting us right behind the 8 ball straight away.

Not having a performing spinner doesnt help the cause at all either, however, Warney will be back. Hopefully we can squeeze three more years out of him (how i dont know, but just maybe we can) so that White can mature at state level before thrusting him into the international limelight.

I think we need to look at a few changes if we're to have a serious chance at winning the World Cup next year. I am a believer that Stuart MacGill - a wicket taking bowler should be playing more of a role in the one-day team. This way, Shane Warne can be rested more and allow him to concentrate on the test matches.

A similar thing happened 4 years ago. We missed the finals, made the hard decisions with regards to Mark Taylor & Ian Healy and then went on to win the next World Cup.

Sorry, I should of stated: Prior Career means since the player made their ODI debut, not the 2000/2001 series.
