I tried that and it turns back into a normal object

But now I've tried it again and moved it into a different layer - presto. So it has the move from out of the group into a different layer rather than just out of the group.
what do you mean?
each time i move it into a new layer it changes back to the original shape, do i need to move the base with it?

Care to elaborate?

I can do a recolour of photos tutorial
How to colour sashes, hoops, etc.
Also, I know the recolour thing. Want me to do the recolour thread.

so, how do I make it so that I can select the thing I've put in a clipping mask by just clicking on the object?
Direct selection tool (white mouse thing)

Greater Gattsby - I'm particularly impressed by these tutorials you've been writing, the depth is outstanding. I've awarded you the 'quill' badge as I feel they deserve recognition.

Thanks very much gibbsy, I'm just happy to put some of my knowledge which I've gained off others back into the board. Hopefully I'll have another tutorial up sometime this week.

I concur, Gibbsy. I actually think this sort of format - solitary threads with intricate detail - are fantastic for tutorials, far better than the megathreads where a lot of knowledge gets lost in the pile. Props, GG, for setting a magnificent standard.

Bumping this helpful tutorial. Turns out the clipping masks in Photoshop and Illustrator are different after all.

They're different from each other, if that's what you mean.
But the Illustrator Clipping Path has not changed from the OP.
Yeah I meant that they're different from each other.
