Adelaide began 2008 again in warm conditions with some new faces running around Max Basheer Reserve on Thursday morning.
Central District recruit James Moss joined the squad for the first time after his cricket commitments with the South Australian under 19 side.
Fellow rookies Brodie Martin and Ed Curnow also trained while Jared Petrenko continues his recovery from shoulder surgery.
Injured forward Trent Hentschel has been training with the main group and will resume competitive training in the next couple of weeks.
With only 37 days to the NAB Cup clash against Collingwood in Dubai, Hentschel says the new recruits have added some enthusiasm and energy to training.
“The new group of kids we’ve had come in have been really positive and are training well, so I think it’s really good for the group,” he said.
Hentschel was disappointed to have been ruled out of the Dubai game but is confident that he is on track to return to full match conditions.
“In terms of my knee things are really good. I just have to obviously get the rest of my body properly fit and get ready to play,” said Hentschel.
“I’ve had a few little niggles along the way but the doctor told me to expect that so everything’s gone to plan so far.”
With a long and frustrating recovery Hentschel has had to endure the slow process of such a severe knee injury, but admits that being back out on the track has given him extra confidence.
“I’m a bit less grumpy and more happy to be out there with the group,” Hentschel said.
“I think along the way you doubt yourself a little bit. Obviously every box you tick and everything you do makes you more confident you’ll get back and play again.”
The squad faces a tough four week training program before heading to Dubai for the Collingwood clash on February 9.
Hentschel is hopeful for a full recovery by mid-February and from there he will aim for a return to the field.
“It feels pretty close; the reconstruction was February 17 so I’ll work towards that and hopefully get a game somewhere around then.”

Nice work by afc.com.au to have that up there. Would be even better to have photos.
macca23, weren't you going to head down to training early in the new year? Anything to report?
There's a video up on the afc website but it's on bigshit so the quality is so low you can't tell who is who unless the name comes up. Still worth a look.
