This article was brought up in the Modern Warfare 3 thread.

http://au.games.ign.com/articles/121/1217539p1.html

This has got me thinking about what I would do to try to reinvent the Multiplayer aspect of the game. I know there may be CoD threads, but this thread is about what you would do to make a new CoD experience using Modern Warfare 3 (or other CoD game) as a template. So what would you do to change the landscape of the CoD series.

Here's a the things which I would change or add.

Killstreak/point streak system
One of the big plus's of Modern Warfare 3 for me was the Strike packages. This meant that it included people with different playing styles. This meant that those who are more about supporting the team rather than being a lone wolf in a team getting a high killstreak got rewarded as well. The other pluses is that it also recognised not just killing a enemy but also capturing a flag, destroying enemy equipment etc.
But however I think it can be expanded upon. What I would like to see is a point streak system introduced. Let's say that 1 kill is the equivalant to 100 points. It would mean that you would need to get 300 points to get the UAV. Doing different actions will result in a different amount of points. So doing something like destroying an enemies Scrambler will result in 50 points or destroying a AC130 will result in 350 points. I think the pointstreaks should be used more to encourage people to support the team then to think about thier own killstreak.

Here's how I would have the points in general.
Destroy enemies tactical insertion - 25 points.
Destroy enemies tophy system, SAM - 50 points
Assist in a kill - 50 points
Assist in shooting down an enemy chopper, UAV, recon drone - 50 points
Destroy enemies portable radar, scrambler - 75 points
Kill an enemy - 100 points
Destroy IMS - 100 points
Capture a flag in the first minute of Domination - 100 points
Shoot down recon drone - 100 points
Shoot down an enemy UAV, Counter UAV - 125 points
Shoot down strafe run chopper - 125 points
Destroy remote turrent - 125 points
Destroy Sentry Gun - 150 points
Shoot down advanced UAV - 175 points
Shoot down attack chopper - 175 points
Kill support strike package Juggernaught - 175 points
Destroy Assult drone - 175 points
Shoot down Reaper - 225 points
Shoot down little big guard chopper - 250 points
Kill assult strike package Juggernaught - 250 points
Destroy Escort Airdrop - 275 points
Capture the flag after first minute of domination - 300 points
Shoot down Pavelow - 300 points
Shoot down Ospray Gunner - 300 points
Shoot down AC130 - 350 points

Upgradable Pointstreaks
This idea is that you gain money playing multiplayer and spend the money to updrade the pointstreaks to make them more powerful or harder to shoot down for the duration of 1 match. The amount of money you earn during the match is determined by the proposed point streak system above ie. 1 point is equal to $1. If you don't spend the money within a week of playing then it will disappear. This is to prevent people from saving up.

Here's and example of upgradable killstreaks.
UAV- Lasts twice as long $1000
- Has flare $500
- Reveals Assassin $2500

Precision Airstike - Aircraft won't appear on enemy mini-map $500
- Bigger explosion $700

Attack Chopper - Attacks those using Blind Eye $2500
- Has Flare $700

SAM - Ignores flares $1200
- Only explosives can destroy it $1000

You get the idea.

Interactive Maps
What I would like to see is for the maps to be more interactive. Black Ops touched on it slightly but it had so little influence that it was more of a novalty then it effecting how you play. It would be great if they made the maps interactive where it will influence play but won't stop the flow. Things I would like to see are things like controlling blast doors, walls which can be blasted down etc. Also small subtle things like locking doors to rooms behind you and the only way through is to shoot the lock or blast it open.

I honestly don't know why I wrote all this. I guess I have too much time on my hands today.

- No radar
- No killstreaks
- No deathstreaks
- Start off with 0 perks
- Unlock a perk every kill until 8 kills where you unlock them all (specialist)
- Better maps
- Dedicated servers

Fastest aim wins, no bullshit.

Everything the same as cod4 but just improve the graphics.

Online community for cod4 is still much larger then any of the newer cods as they continue to remove the users power to edit the multiplayer parts which is what made cod4 so good imo.

nice idea for a thread.

basically there's a few things i'd do and all of it plays to the strengths of call of duty's amazingly responsive controls.
cause realistically.....all of the over the top bs they've added over the years since after w@w has ruined what made the cod experience so great in the first place. its AMAZING gunplay!

here goes.

- simplify the map designs.
think back to call of duty 4 where the map design was quite simplistic yet it flowed so perfectly into each area.
the verticality was extremely limited which allowed the fast paced gun on gun play to shine which is what cod used to be all about.
in doing this you lose a huge chunk of players just sitting in a window/behind rubble with sights aimed and get a far more free flowing fast paced experience.
i mean cod has the most responsive controlling of any shooter on the market for consoles....play to its strengths ffs!
limit verticality.....significantly reduce rubble...improve color pallet.

- lose the customised killstreaks/piss off the super powered ones.
basically the killstreaks not being uniform for all players helps to increase camping and helps lead to k/d whores and in general ruins the balance of the games. the boost of camping/kd whoring was CLEARLY visible mw2 onwards.
if you keep all streaks the same for every player (personally still think the 3(uav) 5(airstrike) 7(chopper OR w@w dogs) is the ideal set-up) with a queue system so everyone can get out their streaks in the order earned for the last streak then not only will it focus far more on the gunplay (obviously no streaks does this best but we're talking about cod here and this is the system that made it HUGE in the first place) but it is easily obtainable for players of all levels at 7 kills max and the level of inflation of k/d is minimized SIGNIFICANTLY!

- increase user gametype/style customisability.
morell touched upon this in the mw3 thread.
basically there is no reason why a separate playlist that doesn't contribute to official stats WHATSOEVER couldn't be set-up.
give the users the ability to set-up those single weapon, one hit capture the flag modes or matches that last for 30 mins or rolling gametype modes such as the AMAZING warzone in kz2 for example (warzone would be BEYOND amazing on cod without k/d whores)....
heck even have the opportunity for the ac-130's and pavelows and chopper gunners etc in these specific community created modes if that's what they want!
basically having stats not recorded will improve the free flowing nature of the games as people aren't trying to have an overall 2 or 3 k/d etc....they're truly playing for FUN and not worrying about how good others think they are. (mode with over the top killstreaks not really included in that :P)

- develop a skill level system for match making.
basically i feel that a system like this could probably never be perfect as kd's are certainly a matter of playstyle/care factor (i've said it before but i have no doubt if i decided to sit back more and just kill whore i could hold a 4+ k/d with absolute ease) and it'd probably need to be mode specific/overall spm for each mode (which would be a far more accurate reading of skill) but i feel a system like this would improve the overall matches....
i mean going 50-5 is fine fun going against useless players but if you're against players of similar skill levels all with similar abilities to play the objective/get kills then you will have some deadset ripper matches with everyone more likely to be playing for the win as it's a matter of ego more than k/d....both are kind of one and the same but i think the win would be more important in this case.....(considering these are people of similar score ratings.....maybe...)
in theory this sounds ok to me but i'm not entirely sure how it would work. (i'm pretty certain halo has some sort of skill rating system?)
playing with a party of different skill level players could find a middle ground and adjust dependent on performance.

- employ top of the line sound design....poach dices if they must. :P
honestly the sound ever since cod4 has been absolutely terrible.
don't believe me, play mw3 for a few mins then chuck in cod4.
the sound is so important to the overall atmosphere and feel of a game that i just simply can't believe how shit it became after call of duty 4.
a chopper in cod4 is NOWHERE near as powerful/potent as a pavelow/osprey/ac130 but **** me is it more intimidating hearing that thing hover above you.
the beefiness of the guns and nades simply cannot be ignored.
dice has set the standard with their battlefield series.....there is simply no excuse with the type of money that cod devs have at their disposal to ignore this aspect so much.

- use dedicated servers with server browser.
no more ****ing lag compensation garbage....no host migrations to inferior hosts.
there is simply no excuse to add artificial lag to people with good internet. (the game is basically a coaster for me now even though i can't even remember the last game i didn't top score a lobby simply cause i can't ****ing stand lag comp!)
the level of bullshit and frustration that exists purely because of this absolute garbage implementation with dedi servers no longer exists.
with the server browser you will have FAR MORE than necessary rooms to always find a game that when you shoot....the first 5-6 bullets not only exist....but they actually kill the enemy!!!:eek::eek:

i could probably think of more but tbh the post is probably at tl;dr levels for many already.
basically the game needs to be completely re-modeled to focus on what made the game a phenomenon in the first place....it's fast paced gunplay!

hopefully this is something the respawn people are already thinking/aware of and create a super fast paced twitch shooter without the bullshit that can make all the bigfooty guys switch and we can never touch a cod again!

Personally I'm not sure what you're going for in your OP here.

Are you looking to reinvent the MP aspect and turn it into something that people aren't saying 'it's just the same old, same old' OR are you just looking to iterate on what is already there?

Because if I'm honest everything you wrote in your OP there is purely iterative. None of it would reinvent the series and it would most definitely just be more or slightly different of what's already there.

It feels like the changes you offer up are more viable because they're more or less so minor to how the entire experience would actually still feel. In fact I think they're actually ideas I could see IW/Treyarch/Sledgehammer/WHO THE **** EVER implementing because of the iterative nature. The ideas are similar to how the strike package was implemented with MW3 and how the COD Money was in Blops. They're 'new', but do they REALLY change how COD plays out? Not really. It's all kind of just a bit superfluous at the end of the day still.

IMO if you're going to make another COD or at least make something that's changing COD for the better it has to be a BIG change. Something that really changes not only how COD is looked at but how it plays significantly.

Honestly I'm not really even sure myself what COD needs to significantly alter how it currently is. I think there's ideas in here that do work and I think there's stuff that doesn't. But whether or not that changes the way COD is and how we look at it or would look at it is tough to say.

I would kind of also be happy for just more or less of a COD4 remake with the clear actual positives that the following COD's from then brought in. But I also get the feeling that there's an inherent nature to COD players now that would still find ways to ruin how balanced and fun COD4 is.

More ponies/horses/cows. Less guns, killing and death.

Turn it into a FPP (First Person Patter) and people will flock. Competitive MP would be Team Patmatch, Capture the Stable and King of the Grazing Patch.

I'd envisage it would look a little something like this (excuse the poor 'shooping skillz')

Also there's definitely room for a MLP mashup in there so if Hasbro came to the party...

Make it like BF with COD 4 maps and hit detection

Dedicated servers and all that jazz, stats that will make your nose bleed there are so many, that shits a no brainer and should already be here.

Remove perks from the game. Fuggin take em out. Do we need them?

Killstreaks should be stripped way back similar to what it was in cod4, but maybe make them different depending on game mode.

Example, in TDM there is a 5-8-11 setup with 5 being UAV, 8 a stealth bomber or something and 11 being an AI controlled Heli, that is hard as fuark to take down. The short time I played cod4 it was UAV spam, wasn't digging that at all. make it harder to get. No perks means no Assassin.

For SnD you get a 3-5-7 setup with UAV and two other fuarkin things.

Custom camo for guns, unlocked at gun level 1000 or something. I want to be able to use hot pink camo.

Make it a turn-based-shooter ;)

Yeah matchmaking on a trueskill basis would be good. Halo 3 used to be awesome as you'd almost always get a game with people of similar ability, rather than continually get r*ped by some uber clan.

Hard to do with large teams tho i guess
