With the hawks throwing Thurgood, Lewis, and Taylor into the mix tonight, i thought i would make a post on how everyone has thought there new draftees (if playing) have gone.

Deledio & Tambling were decent. Pattison did nothing but he was on for about 20 secounds.

Thurgood looked fine for the ten minutes he had before getting splattered.

Given that much of the impact was to his head its unlikely that extra bulk would have helped in this instance, but he certainly needs to find a few extra kilos. Reminds me a bit of Hay when he was 17, raw & scrawny. Should be a player if he can bulk out a bit.

Lewis didn't set the world alight, but on occasion showed good poise and firm hands in close. Needs to do better, but showed enough to suggest that he will improve with time.

Taylor has been getting big wraps for his training exploits, but this form didn't carry over to the game last night. Took a year to dispose of the ball late in the 3rd term and coughed it up at a crucial moment. Too early to tell accurately, but will have to improve massively on that showing.

Harry Miller was clearly the best of the top side debutantes. Was praised for his efforts playing for the Aboriginal AllStars and you could see why. Ran hard and nver shirked the workload all night. I'd like to see him and Williams sharing positions rotating between the midfield and forward pocket. A dangerous player in the making.

Our recruits all did very well last night
Ackland - Thought he came out evens with Everitt
Fiora - very impressed with his game 22 odd disposals, a super goal (one that hit the post and another that was touched on the line so could have had 3.) Also showed some bigger body strength to the dismay of tiger fans he actually laid a good bump on mitchell and took a few bouncers
Gwilt - i thought played awesome for the circmstances he came in under. 15 possessions some strong marks and some excellent vision and skills
McGough - Got a bit of the ball, wasn't dissapointed with his game, kicked a goal
McQualter - still young and small had a little game time but impressed me from the what little oppurtunties he got

daniel mcconnell was drafted 2003 but is still very young. he got about 17 possesions and was roundly congratulated for his game in media outlets. he only played about 60% of the game. other than that we didnt have any rookies taking part. i dont think beau waters counts but he was also impressive.

Lewis, while he didn't play the best out of our draftees gave me the impression that he can play. Great size, good kick and likes it in and under. Taylor looked out of his depth. Miller looked heaps better than I had seen him, and didn't see much of thurgood. But yeah excited about Lewis

Dunn - had very limited time on the field but showed enough to suggest that he has a future at the club. Seems to have good skills and game awareness.

Moloney - solid showing. Nothing spectacular and seemed a bit quiet but got his own ball, hit the packs hard and kicked long. Will only get better.

P.Johnson - Very quiet for 3 quarters but got a bit involved in the final term winning a few hitouts and getting a few possies and marks. Looks like he could get a few games this year.

Eddie Betts looked every bit the excitement machine that he has rumoured to be.with only very limited game time he was in everything finishing with 2 goals ..one from a run down from behind tackle and the other from a Whitnall pass and snap. i am looking forward to seeing more of the llittle fella on a regular basis

I havent seen the game yet ... but am looking fwd to watching it tonight ... i saw betts's tackle and goal and was very impressed ... comparing him to milne by the 3AW guy was a joke ... milne hasnt tackled/dished off asists ever!!!

if he can be our little dynamo in the fwd line we will be in for an exciting and entertaining year!!!

ps: i reckon on yesterday's form losing knob to the tigers has been a blessing in disguise!!!

thurgood needs this website... www.t-nation.com and my advice to him would be to bench, squat, dead, row, eat (ALOT) and sleep!!! ;)

King Richard and Lids were great. Finally something to really look forward to.

Yes, Aaron Fiora did look quite good. And for what it's worth I always thought he was going to be a player. He will be the conclusive evidence of just how incompetent and career jeopardising a coach Spud was.

Also liked what I saw of Josh Thurgood. Quite surprised really but he is a swizzle stick of a kid and needs to put on about 20kg's before he's really ready.

Ottens remains a big soft waste of a career. Sorry but it's true.

Daniel Pratt was the only of our new draftees to get a game and I thought he was very solid down back without being exceptional. Certainly has a future at the club.

Joel Perry (drafted in 2002) got his first senior outing and was fantastic. Will only get better and seems a certainty to eventually succeed Leigh Colbert.

Liked Paul Thomas's game. I can see him getting a cult following at Essendon. Hard at the ball and the man. Loves tackling and doing the 1%ers. Had a tough time adjusting to the pace of the game at times, but you expect that in a first gamer. Although at other times he looked as if he had been in the game for ten years.

Andrew Lovett (second year on the rookie list) played his first senior game. Showed a greater tendancy to run hard defensively, which was an improvement on last season. Kicked a very classy crumb goal, but still has a way to go.

I caught a bit of that game and he looked really good. I thought he showed good poise. He is 22 isnt he? Former Magarey Medalist in the SANFL so you would hope he was more advanced that the kids.

Callum Chambers showed signs that pre-season time trials aren't all he's good at. He ran hard to contests and used the ball well when he got it. Got to be careful not to get too excited in the early stages, though. An impressive debut in Navy colours none the less.

Thomas will be great this year for the Bombers, he is exactly what we need, or ina sense evry club needs. Someone who has the hunger of playing afl football, unlike some afl players who take playing for granted. Lovett was also very impressive, he has the explosive pace of an Aaron Davey, should be ahead of Reynolds though.

Fanning- did okay, was wet so can excuse the drop marks, did very well in the ruck, can see him doing well in the ruck with richards allowing fraser to be a roaming forward/wing...which will be great for us

Egan- didnt really come into the game untill the 4th quarter...one thing i dont like about him is, he is not a player that gets in and gets his ball, he waits outside, one incident he stood off the ball, the ball was in our 50 and he just made richard cole run and try to get the ball, without getting it himself...Malthouse better teach him to get his own ball...his skills are good..wasnt a good night to really judge him..should improve

Zane Lenord- hardly sighted proberbly will be delisted aftert this season if he cannot be fit or breaK into the main side

heath shaw- didnt really show much, got some of the ball...needs improvement, hopefully he's cousin Brayden is better

travis cloke- is big, can run a bit...didnt really infulence the game, should learn...didnt really impress me, except few mins. in the last quarter where he got the ball alot...then got hurt...

Watched the game in Darwin and was impressed with Fanning as I had never heard of him and thought he did quite well.

Travis Cloke will be a good utility in time and will be the best of the Clokes.

Disappointed in Egan, looked hesitant when the ball was in his area and those
people who have compared him to Tambling should have a good look at themselves.

Didnt really notice the others
