I actually had two Hawthorn supporters in unrelated situations come up to me in the last week and explain what a champion side 'because we've won two flags with this side'. Yes, they were assuming they already had it won this year.

That sort of arrogance cannot make you popular. As an old Geelong supporter, I'm glad that I learned very well how it feels to lose a GF before I had to handle winning a few. Hopefully a few younger Hawks supporters learned a lesson or two today.

Yeah, it is not like any cats fans had embarrassing tattoos made before the 08 premiership. I'm sure all of the empty seats in the Freo elimination final had nothing to do with Hubris either. How about you preach to your own flock before lecturing the rest of us.

I know you're angry, but I'm just passing on what happened, not lecturing to anyone. There are some younger Geelong supporters that didn't go through the late 80's and early 90's, so don't have the same perspective on how it feels to lose a GF.

IMO, having an arrogant president like Jeff Kennett didn't help - his comments about how Hawthorn 'deserved to' or 'should have' won the premiership last year (and before) are rubbish. The only team that deserves to win is the one that finishes with a higher score on Grand Final day.

To be fair, there's a major difference between the pro-Hawks commentators and the genuine fans. Every friend of mine who is a Hawks supporter never once bought into the hype this year. I blame the media more than the long suffering fans, and the occasional internet troll. And on a side note, my mates were very gracious about losing.

Really? That's all you've got? I see a few ex-players pointing out that our list is in a state where it could still win a few flags if things go the right way. Like the article says "Wallace, who has conducted a forensic analysis of the Hawks' list, stresses there are no guarantees.".

There will always be a minority of tossers, but I suggest you compare the credit Hawks posters have given the Swans after yesterday, compared to your mob's bigfooty reaction after 2008. In part we probably have you guys to thank, as you provided an excellent role model in how NOT to react to a GF loss after going in favourites.

I agree with this. I just wish a few more Cat fans had admitted this after the 2008 GF - and lectured their less mature colleagues on the same principle.

I also hope all Hawk fans remember that Sydney won because they deserved to win. So far, I think most Hawk fans have been gracious in this defeat. Not all, I'm sure, but certainly the vast majority of the ones I have contact with.

Also, Kennett was a dork and I wish he would shut up.

That article was the product of a reporters take, which he managed to get some quotes fromRECENT hawks players which fitted the story.

Its hardly the club or supporters proclaiming a dynasty.
And both sets of supporters had plenty of reasons to go in confidently before the GF.

People are making this way too much about delighting in Hawthorn's loss rather than the Swans victory. Instead of frothing at the mouth in delight at one teams failure try framing the win in the context of a well liked club enjoying success after many decades of failure. It reflects much better on your personalities. Frankly I'm not sure whats more revolting hubris or contempt.

Considering the similarity between our loss yesterday with the Cats loss in '08 it will be very interesting to see if we as a supporter group handle this in the same way (years of complaining and bitterness). Something tells me not. I for one am on one level happy for the Swans despite concurrently feeling that we were beaten by an inferior team. Everything I've heard coming from the Hawks board echoes a similar sentiment. The Cats sense of entitlement in '08 far exceeded anything Hawthorn has displayed this year on any other. Ill be over this pretty quickly and (as one Hawthorn poster put it) ready to repeat the efforts of the years proceeding our last premiership defeat .... going back to back the following 2 years.
