OK, I will admit, I have often dreamed of doing it for the Doggies, but alas as much as I harangue Rocket he refuses to have any further contact with me, apart from through his legal team :)

So, if you had to have a current Doggies player take a kick to win us the big one who would it be????

...There can't be much left on the clock, this has been an epic fighback from The Dogs, they were 29 points down at the last change but have come back from the dead to be 5 points adrift very late in the last quarter....

The bounce, Hudson taps down to Cross, who hand balls to Cooney, who like a ginger flash streaks through the centre, he offloads to Griffen, who ignores the lead of Addison ( I took the liberty of removing DFA from the equation, I didn't think anyone would mind)....

........Griffen desperately looks for a lead.....he bounces, then runs backwards evading the desperate lunge of his tagger who has done everything humanly possible to thwart the Doggies today (is it Ian Collins?).... still looking for an opening, imploring one of his team mates to offer him a lead.....time must surely be running out...

.....he hand balls back to Cross who is under the pump, Cross somehow wriggles out of a tackle.. he looks up...no none comes at him.....he has a bounce (what!) .....and kicks a mongrel helicopter from the Sam Power school of kicking, high into the air......which wobbles and drops down towards a pack of players...bodies crash and the ball falls into the hands of______________!

What a finish! The mark is payed just before the full time siren is sounded....the crowd have gone berzerk....this kick could end 54 years of heart ache and tears for the Doggies...or it could be yet another chapter in a long hideous storyline of near misses and gut wrenching agony...and their fate lays in the hands of one man....

40 metres out, on a 45 degree angle....what is to be the result???

There's a flaw in your hypothetical:

Cooney, who like a ginger flash streaks through the centre, he offloads to Griffen,

That statement puts Griff about 60-70m out from goal, from there he'd run another 15m then bang it through the sticks post high :)

But otherwise, I'd pick Gilbee, and if he'd done a hammy, probably Aker.

surely cant be serious with Minson?

Dude, read the scenario. Minno is the only one taller than a garden gnome, he'd have the best chance to mark a skyer. Besides, if - miracle of miracles - the big fella actually DID mark the ball for a change, he'd be so surprised that he'd kick the goal with ease. :D

Is that before or after Harris takes the mark but gets injured?

Oh, and Murph for me no doubt. Then Cooney. Aker if there was more of an angle and Gilbee if it was further out.

I liked to see Brian Lake take the kick to redeem himself after hobbling from the ground and allowing minson to increase his already large cult following.
It would be a sweet thing after hearing what people said about the big guy being soft or a cheat.

i also couldnt handle this... id be sick if it happened... i couldnt imagine how the player would feel...

for this reason i would say AKER...

jono would have all those thoughts in the initial post running through his head... as would murphy...

although gilbs is the best kick, i dont see him as the pressure man...

AKER is the money man to take those kicks. no one else.

Scott West or Brad Johnson because after suffering so long they deserve it. Although in the situation described only Johnno or Hahn would or could take the mark. (please don't make it Hahn ;))

Aker would be the one I'd WANT to take it, that's his mantle, big moments, big matches.

For a bit of romanticism; Callan Ward - awesome kick and what a debut season it would be for the young fella

Cross to prove that he can dispose of the footy not only by hand but by foot as well.

Jokes aside. Aka because he doeswn't like to think about the kick to much have you noticed with the majority of set shots he just goes straight back and walks straight in. Plus he has been there on the big day 4 times so he got the experiance there so the moment wouldn't get to him.

Though there wouldn't be any bigger moment in his career than this hypothetical. Would much rather be 12 goals up at the final change so we could enjoy the last 30 mins of the season and not have to worry about winning a flag on one kick.
