Playing in with current form, the Adelaide crows should make the AFL finals somehwere between 5th and 8th. Should the crows win during the first weekend of september, they would need to travel to melbourne to play a Victorian team on either friday night (12/9/08) or saturday night (13/09/08).

With Adelaide united playing against Melbourne victory at the telstra dome on friday, this looms as a massive road trip or heart break for die-hard adelaide sports fans.

Regardless of personal opinions, do you think either organisation will be willing schedule games around this fact? Or will the AFL force the FFA to change the game?

I cant see this ending happily for me & other crows/reds fans...

Err ..

Say they both fell on the same night .. how would it be difficult to choose out of a Crows final in Melbourne or a regular United match?

One team is playing finals, the other is just playing a regular season game.

If you are honestly a Crows/Reds fan then the Crows game should be priority easily.

If it's too hard to choose then obviously the Reds are much more important to you than the Crows.

Choosing between any 2 teams is hard, regardless of whether they are playing finals.

A do-or-die clash vs a regular season game, especially when there is another away melbourne trip in december. It wouldnt be a difficult choice.

Point is, it would be un-neccesary to have both on the same night, which would be a heart ache.

Question is, would either organisation budge, or would the AFL force the hal game to be moved?

Oh I can just see this thread turning into another soccer sucks thread.....

I appreciate that some people get a perverse pleasure out of watching people run a little round ball around an oval for 90 minutes and end up with a nil all draw... I do, honestly. For me though soccer is a FANTASTIC game to play but an absolutely crap game to watch. In fact, I'd rather eat glass. No brainer... AFL every day of the week and twice on Sunday! :D:thumbsu:

I think things have kinda changed and most AFL people appreciate soccer nowdays, i think the Premier League had a lot to do with it. Alot of AFL players and coaches are huge fans of soccer as well.

If Australia are playing a World cup qualifier and the crows were playing in the first week of finals I'd find it difficult to pick between the two.

2 words "Champions League" what an unbelievable concept and how I have wished such a concept existed in AFL, however given that only 1 country plays the sport this is not likely to ever happen.

It is an absolutely BORING and pointless game IMO. Great skills, no doubt about that... but boring as to watch. How people can get so "excited" when nothing actually happens (well rarely anyways.... hmmm maybe that's why they get so excited) is beyond me.

World Cup schmorld cup. I'd rather eat glass. :p:D

Hmmm good question, that game for me is quite alot bigger than it may be for some of you as I have to listen to how good Victory is on a daily basis from mates and the Vic media!! Dare I say it I may have to stay at home and flick like some kinda crazy person??

Also (don't bother answering this with a oooh soccer is so shite) when is the next round of asian champs league? will that clash with finals?

Those games are played on Wednesday night as to not interfere with the local competitions so wont clash with AFL finals either.

I don't see why it's hard. If you honestly are 50/50 with your support to the Crows & Reds, then a finals appearance should take priority.

Point is, it would be un-neccesary to have both on the same night, which would be a heart ache.

Heartache? Geez you're not going over the top here are you? If it's so heartbreaking choosing between the Crows who are playing finals, or the Reds who are playing a regular season match .. then go to the Reds game because obviously that's where your loyalty lies, and you've shown it in this thread.

I, however, wouldn't turn down the opportunity to see united play, but if the Crows are playing finals, United wouldn't even cross my mind.

Pretty much agree with this line of thinking, finals no matter what team/code takes preference. If the Crows are in a final, that beats a United regular season game, if United are in the finals that beats a Crows season game. If its a Socceroos World Cup Qualifier that beats all :)

Dude, I have been feeling sick in my stomach regarding this scenario for the last few months, since I booked airfares and accommodation in Melbourne for the Friday and Saturday night of that weekend.

The real fly in the ointment tho is Sydney. If they hang on for 4th then there will be one final in Sydney and one final in Melbourne that weekend (assuming the Crows don't finish 4th).

I am pinning my hopes on the Crows playing in Melbourne either Saturday afternoon or Saturday nite that weekend so I can go to both games.

In the past have they played one semi-final on Fri nite and one on Sat nite? From memory, if they have and there is an interstate final usually the interstate final is played on the Fri nite.

I will be going to the Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory game on the Friday nite even if the Crows play a final at the MCG the same nite. It's not just a minor round match ... it's vs Victory in Melbourne ... it's war I tell ya!

As far as possible rescheduling, I doubt the FFA will reschedule, Adelaide United plays their away Champions League leg on Wednesday 17th September and are already planning to fly out of Melbourne to Japan on the Sunday. If the FFA was going to reschedule the clash surely it will be to help United in the ACL, not to avoid a clash with the AFL.

If Adelaide was to play a final in Melbourne I really think the AFL would try and schedule it not to clash with a Melbourne Victory game. They are both co-tenants of the Dome and really is important for the teams to co-exist happily in the same city. If they went head to head needlessly I am sure there would be some bad blood between the organisations. There is no reason why the clash couldn't be scheduled for Sat afternoon or Sat nite.

P.S. The Crows have gotta get there first!!! :)

Totally agree!

Games are played on the Friday and Saturday nights.

Good point re interstate games being played on the friday night. and to the ACL game.

Ill be booking flights soon spanning friday night - monday morning just incase.

There is a surprising majority of victorian AFL fans that support the victory - you only have to look on the various boards as evidence.

So the dream is Sydney vs vic team on the friday night.

I am confident that my dream will come true of the Crows playing the Sat nite ... will be an awesome weekend if it happens. If not and there is still a game in Melb on the Saturday I plan to go to that anyway.

I can't blame some people for being negative about soccer after the less than sterling performance of the Olyroos, albeit in a very difficult group. We have sent nowhere near our best team. I am not baffled by our tactics as some people are, but completely baffled by the selection of the team.

Fear not, Adelaide United will soon redeem the sport!
