Hypothetical - Sam Darcy or Nick Daicos

If you were a list manager and had a choice in selecting Sam Darcy or Nick Daicos who would you pick?

I dont think Daicos will be even top 2 from that draft, hes just had impact early on but imo the ceiling is lower than JHF, Darcy and Callaghan.

Whether or not he reaches the heights he looks like he could is another question, but on raw ability he is the complete package.

I expected I'd be on my own (and so it proves to be) but I'd choose Daicos.

Speed and ball use is king in today's game - and Daicos is arguably the best user under pressure in the comp.

Darcy has all the tools to be an absolute freak (and I'm well aware of the saying about elite big men over elite smalls) but it is not yet known whether (and to what extent) Darcy fulfills all of his enormous potential (and sometimes the commentary about his athleticism and height oversells his actual influence)

Daicos is guaranteed to be a star and have a significant influence week in week out so I'd choose the certainty over the probably.

I’m really not bias here, but seriously I haven’t seen a player his age, in his position, other than Carey impact a game like he does. Will be the difference of the doggies being a genuine threat or not this year. Crazy that his had 8 weeks out of the game and played one of his best games this season. You can put any old potato like a Finn Maginess to quell Daicos' influence if not outright shut him out of a game.

I really can't think of any player in the league that would be able to go with Darcy for four quarters. There just aren't many 200+ cm defenders who can spoil him without infringing and also having the agility/speed to go with him at ground level.

He only needs 5 minutes to rip a game apart.

Agree. Darcy easily.

Most people would have Carey or Ablett as the best ever player. Why? Because they were freakish commanding forwards who kicked a heap of goals to get wins for their teams.

Judd and GAJ are arguably the best ever mids to play the game, but they're never in the best ever player conversation.

When I was watching both Daicos and Darcy in their under 18 years, I commented to mates that I'd pick Darcy ahead of Daicos. But I was wrong given how good Daicos became at the level, and how quickly he did it.

The most logical way to judge Player v. Player is to work out how many of the best individual games each player has if you were to combined their best 10, 50, 100, 200, 300 games over their careers.

So far, if you combined their best 10 games, Darcy would contribute 1 or 2, whilst Daicos would have 8 or 9.

If you combined their best 50 games, Daicos would have more than 40, whilst Darcy would have less than 10.

Darcy has a fair bit of catching up to do, but it's exciting that he has 'potential'.

And if you're going to pick a shiny new toy after you've been embarrassed with the many other comparisons made in the past, Sam Darcy would be the logical choice.

Darcy will have his matches where he is quelled. It’s natural for any gun forward. The difference will be that his coach and the media won’t go into a meltdown about it and act as if Bambi has been shot because he’s had a down game.

It's so weird that some are basing their choice over who will be more impactful over their hopefully 15 year long careers on "potential". They should just compare who has done more at the age of 21, the 184cm mid or the 210cm forward, they'll develop at the same rate. Or maybe just point to all of the other 210cm forwards of the past and use them as a reference.

Is the question 'who will be more impactful', or 'who would you choose first if you were a list manager'.

Because the latter was the questioned posed by the OP.

And many are basing their decisions on the fact gun forwards are rarer than gun midfielders.
