Now let me start by saying there is no way I would like to see the club do it. The purpose of this thread to get your opinions as to what Ben Rutten would be worth in terms of draft picks. The reason I ask this is the ridicilous price Hawthorn are asking for Jonathan Hay. IMHO, Hay is worth a mid-first round draft pick BUT Hawks are asking for TWO first round draft picks. Suprisingly enough, a couple of teams are prepared to give up that much for him

So I ask you ladies and gentleman, if Hay is worth 2 first round draft picks on the market as a 26 year old, how much would Rutten be worth as a 22 year old AA fullback??????

Again, I stress I would hate it if we traded the kid. I would burn the club rooms down :D. This thread is purely for people to discuss what Rutten would be worth if he was on the market.

Fire away :)

Would Freo accept a straight swap, Pavlich for Rutten? Maybe, but I wouldn’t.

I would say we would get at least 2 first round draft picks, who wouldn't cough up this for the best defenseman in the AFL?

Jon Hay? Never really been a fan. I hope being AA FBs at the age of 22 is the only thing they have in common.

Rutten is presently a top line full back with potentially a decade of service to come.

I'd want nothing less than a presently top-line, young KPP in return. Nick Riewoldt or Jonathan Brown fit the bill.

At this stage - First round pick + a player

Should he happen to have a follow up year as good as this or better - Top 5+ Quality young player

Lets not forget that at one stage in his career Hay WAS a gun

Not enough trade action to keep you occupied, Stiffy? ;)

I don't think we could realistically expect to get a Pavlich, Riewoldt or Brown type as a straight swap for Rutten, for 2 reasons:

1. Most people believe that it's easier to play back than forward
2. Rutten's been a class act for one year - he would have to stay at the top for awhile to match the guys above.

We'd probably have to throw in a good sweetener like a Mattner or our Pick 16 to clinch the deal.

Why is Hay more highly rated than Rutten??????

Since his AA slection, Hay has done sweet ******** all in the league. He had been struggling with injuries and off-field issues in his personal life. The boy comes with a fair bit of baggage.

How can Hay be possibly worth more than Ben Rutten on the open market??????

If Hay is worth 2 first round draft picks then surely Rutten would be worth 2 top 10 picks

He would be worth either a top 5 pick or 2 first rounders IMO - it will be easier to determine after next year coz hes only had the one season so far

if we could get riewoldt or brown in a trade for rutten id do it in a second.. no disrespect to rutten as he is a dead set gun but a superstar centre half forward i would want over a superstar full back

One and a half. People forget how smoothly Rutten settled into a struggling side in 2004.

Stiffy Hay is way overrated if he goes for 2 first round draft picks.

What would our Ben be worth, maybe a younger version of Warren Tredrea :)
