I don't hate Collingwood

Essendon stuffed up with their own players and are paying the price. So I can't really hate them for it.

Eddie uses his show to abuse other teams on a weekly basis.

I don't mind Collingwood.
It's Eddie I have a problem with.

He is a bully that has become a tyrant. And everyone sits around and watches.

Except Sydney.
We have decided to make a stand. :)
Obligatory Sydney supporter's "I hate Eddie and the way he tries to get rid of our unfair advantage" comment.^

Eddie McGuire.
And disproportionate publicity. Every draft pick is an "absolute gun". A dropped overhead mark by a small forward gets a 2 page spread in the country's highest circulation newspaper. Every potential gun at another club is compared to "Pendelbury"

Bontempelli is about the only draftee I can remember being compared to Pendlebury. "The next Judd" is a much more common phrase.

Yep, spot on, which is why we're up there. Except with us it's on AND off field success that people hate/envy...

Go back prior to '07 and the Cats would be down the bottom of that list in the 0s.

More evidence suggested by the fact Western Bulldogs are the least hated alongside Melbourne and the new franchises. Pretty consistent with TPS and Australia's underdog culture.

I'm a bit of a loss to explain why Sydney are so low down. It's the only one on the list that is out of of place and a genuine anomaly considering their recent (assisted) success.

It's football lore as laid down in the long-ago by Jack Dyer.

"When they lose they never visit your rooms or congratulate you and they'll send you round hot beer to have a drink. I wouldn't drink anything they offered, you wouldn't know what they had done to it."

- Cap'n Blood

It's not like old Jack didn't like to add a bit of mayo to his stories. :D

I don't mind the Pies either. Got their share of ******* supporters, but probably no more per capita than anyone else.

It's Essendon I always have and always will despise. The sheer arrogance is something you don't see in Collingwood and they've even got Carlton covered.
Got Carlton covered for arrogance? :( It was the only thing we had left!!!

It's not tall poppy, certainly not because of success (lack of) but don't think the club's finances would be a consideration. It would stem from the old days and demographics and has just rolled on.

Sydney will climb the list when they win a flag or two with Tippett and Franklin kicking bags. If they go after Frawley and give him the 7 year deal he's after, then we'll definitely see a quick climb (dunno if they're interested).

Sydney are a slightly different kettle of fish. I don't hate them, although I have every reason to do so, COLA, 2012, Buddy, Joey etc etc. I have a personal reason not to hate them: my missus is a massive Swans supporter, so when she's happy I'm happy. And a universal reason: I ****ing despise thugby league, and the Swannies are flying the flag for the best sport in the world in a hostile city that seems to hold out against Australian football because they perceive it to be 'Victorian' rather than Australian. The latter may be a reason why a lot of people choose not to hate them. Just a theory...

Maybe. But I tend to believe things like Collingwood putting low-watt light bulbs in the visitors' rooms at Victoria Park, causing the players to emerge blinking at the light and allowing Collingwood to jump them early.

Lol, it would take about 2-3 minutes for people's eyes to adjust. That wouldn't even be enough for a warmup. If so that would be a rubbish tactic.

I hate Collingwood. My car window was was smashed twice at VP, and my wallet was stolen by Collingwood bogans.

Dyer believed it. He used to bring his own light bulbs, swap them in on arriving and take them home again after the game.

Born ~ 1992....

It was more the way they gained Manchester united style following in that time. The amount of kids who would shout "GO BOMBERS!" and then could only name Lloyd and Hird when you talked about football was ridiculous. A bunch of arrogant shitty kids who barely even watched football.

I tell people over and over again that this place doesn't reflect real life, but people still think it does.

But it is not that far off. There are a few more diehards that think too much about the footy here, but their opinions are based on similar sentiments hanging around.

The only collingwood person I hate is nick maxwell. I dont hate the team as a whole. Having said most people picked a team because they know someone who barracks for that team and really annoys them. Which is why carlton will always be my most hated. They have the worst supporters.

I don't mind Collingwood, never understood the whole 'its trendy to hate on them' mentality. Maybe its a Vic thing, I don't really know.

Being a West Coast fan in Melbs, Collingwood home games are probably the ones I look forward to going to the most. I've never had any issues with their supporters and they know how to pack a ground

As a South Australian I don't like Victorians. Collingwood are the biggest Victorian team, ergo I don't like Collingwood. I can't give a better reason than that, but we all have a team we like to see lose each week. Mine are both the Magpie teams.

Hate, yet respect the Collingwood football club. The way they've grown in the last 10 years should be commended. ANZAC Day match wouldn't be the same without them.

When I was a teenager I was billeted by a family on an interstate football trip. The father was a board member of Collingwood and took me to the club one evening for a meal and an evening playing snooker. Since then I've always had a soft spot for Collingwood, although the Hawks and Pies have rarely had any finals rivalry, so maybe if we did I'd feel a little differently.

Always liked Geelong, and only fight back when Cats supporters have a go at Hawthorn, as they have been doing since a certain day in 2008.

My gripes have always been with clubs who seem to think they are above the law and everyone else (Carlton, Essendon) or clubs who get special treatment from the AFL (Sydney). That sort of stuff really annoys me.

Never understood the hate for Collingwood.
I often find myself going for them in neutral games.
I thinks it's just one of those sheep mentality things that perpetuates without a valid reason.

This is just it, I remember watching a Hawthorn game on TV from Vic Park back in the day, and when we won, watching the Collingwood fans carry on over the fence was ridiculous. I am sure they went out and smashed a few car windows on the way home. So once upon a time there was good reason, but that was a long time ago. The current sentiment is just residual from 25-30 years ago.

On the other hand Carlton have had the dodgiest boards for as long as I can remember, and Essendon have continued to astound me by setting new lows with regard to sportsmanship at their club.

I hated Collingwood but eventually I grew up! For me, when I was a kid what really annoyedms \\ me was how good they thought they were even though they weren't really any good. Having said that, I haven't really hated Collingwood for many years. You just have to look at Collingwoods membership drive tv commercial to understand why that club irk's some people. Peter Daicos and I quote "Collingwood domination, envy of the Nation"!
I mean that is a pretty ****** up statement for a club that's won 2 flags in the last 50 plus years. However the team I follow/followed Essendon surely must 'take the cake' currently in terms of the most disliked club for obvious reasons.
Sums it up here, it's the "were better and more important than everyone else" attitude, they should worry about being a successful club instead blowing smokes up eachother's butts about being the next Manchester United and being as rich as Clive Palmer. Scoreboard is were it matters.
