I don't hate Collingwood

Never went back in the Day but I have heard that it could get Feral there.

We now play our VFL Home Games There
That is something that I'm pretty envious of. Pies, Bulldogs, Essendon and Richmond fans can now watch their reserves teams play at their club's traditional home ground. That must be pretty special.

As for the Collingwood hate. I really don't get it. I think these days most of it is just people hating them because it is 'the done thing.' There are quite a few clubs more worthy of 'hate' than Collingwood.

I think the pies are ok, Eddie is just passionate. Anyone hating Eddie just hates his media persona, that's not the real life Eddie btw kids.
Think again. Massive conflict of interest, that Eddie pretends is not an issue. A more even-handed, fair-minded, all-round classy individual might be acceptable in the dual role of media figure who also happens to be a club president, but Eddie has proven time and again he's not up to it, by repeatedly using his privileged media positions to prosecute his club's case and blatantly put shit on rival clubs.

If that's not how it is, imagine if we rotated his media positions amongst the other 17 presidents? Some of them wouldn't be half the media performer Eddie is, of course, but let's see how he and Collingwood would like it, having to listen to biased propaganda against them every week.

I don't hate Collingwood, in fact I admire them immensely. (And they've had the wood on us for years so as a Swans fan just you have to respect them.) Some of their fans are pretty feral, but whatever; some of their posters on BF are very decent. But Eddie McGuire is a hypocritical and disingenuous opportunistic loudmouth.

It's hard to hate a club for whom we have no difficulty with in beating up on these past 7 seasons!:D....Pretty much a guaranteed 8 points every year, & now with Buckley in charge, we can expect more of the same, only more often!....Also, their supporters meltdowns in post Hawk/Pies game day threadz are becoming hysterically entertaining & provide for compulsory viewing!:thumbsu:

FWIW....Carlton & Essendon definitely & The Swans with a bullet due to their AFL ADMIN Big Brother rorting/machinations on Le grande scale.

Wrong, very wrong. Nobody likes Essendon for the crap they have put this game through.

Um I just joined this site a week ago and the hatred fo EFC as a whole is shocking its not like that out in the public. A lot of people actually respect Essendons rich history in the VFL/AFL and don't blindly hate us. Yes people really dislike what the administration did to its players with this whole doping thing(And Rightfully so) but they don't hate the whole club as a whole just those leaders involved in the doping scandal.

As for the OP, Never hated Collingwood even as a Essendon supporter but it is really fun to see Essendon beat them even though it doesn't happen much in recent years =( lol.

So Collingwood crowds didn't drop in their lean years?
How big was the Collingwood v Essendon crowd the other week compared to when both are going well

Happens with every club when their fortunes are down

Tell me how big the TV rights deal would have been without Sydney

Nice try at selective argument

The problem with that statement is that the Pies draw more bums on seats (nationally) and TV viewers than any other club. Sure it fluctuates but the best way to trial an experimental timeslot would be to have 2 of your biggest drawing clubs play and see what happens. We got the result - no Sunday night footy - straight from the AFL CEO within 48hrs.

Also, while it varies depending on the teams performance (look at the Lions) Collingwood, Richmond, Hawthorn, Essendon and Carlton are still amongst the biggest (supported ie financial members, bums on seats, viewers) clubs in the game no matter their ladder position.

This is why every year I hear "Collingwood get the easiest draw, never play interstate, blah, blah, blah" and all the crap that ignorant people spout. The club is in the spotlight as much as, if not more than any premiership side due to Eddie and the marketing that goes on at the club. This makes them more popular, for good and for bad, period.

Talk to people in Queensland about the AFL and they barely know anything but they all "hate" Collingwood and Eddie.

I'd love it if we beat Collingwood, but I don't take any notice of Eddie or any of that crap. I dislike them, but I don't hate them.

Essendon and North are the only two teams I actually 'hate', with Essendon by far the more hated one of the two. I didn't mind North till they went on this stupid streak against us starting in 2007, and their supporters (Not all granted, but some I've spoken to) seem to think they are a legitimate top 4 chance every year, when in reality they are a bunch of downhill skiiers that do well just to make finals, very much like us in 2004-2006.

Actually Essendon is widely disliked among the football public, even before all the drugs business.

I agree that Eddie can be hypocritical, and should remain publicly silent on a lot more AFL-related topics - but he is far from the only person who does this... and the more we would want media personalities to remain silent on a club they are involved with, the more their employers want them to be a public voice - Channel 9/MMM (or whichever radiostation it is) pays him - and would pay him TO MAKE THOSE COMMENTS... and I think that applies to lots of guys in the AFL media.

A lot of what Eddie says is supported by other clubs. All the presidents have a say, and they do have votes on things. Just because he can be the most vocal on an issue - it doesn't mean he is the only one that holds that opinion - particularly if a vote/decision supports that. And the things he says are in support of Collingwood - what the **** else would you want him to say? You realise that Eddie's arguements about equalisation of off-field spending were echoed by Paul Roos (not at one of the bigger clubs) - that the AFL should not be trying to stifle development of the succesful/profitable clubs, but should rather put things in place (eg. a MINIMUM offield spending - supported by the richer clubs if needed) to ensure that the smaller clubs grow.

And there is nothing stopping other Presidents from having a more vocal role... and in fact many would have "day jobs" that give them much more influence than Eddie has.

---
For the record (and I have had to say this way too many times) - I cringe at a lot of what Eddie says, but he is who he is, and Collingwood and the AFL would be a hell of a lot worse off if he wasn't around.

I couldn't care less either way but I found most opposition supporters felt pretty neutral towards us before the scandal.

Ten years of ineptitude tends to soften the hatred somewhat.

People had also become indifferent to Carlton for the same reason - they've been harmless for quite a long time...until Malthouse was recruited anyway.
