I don't remember every being as appalled at our medical system as I am right now!

A friend of mine is over 7 months pregnant. She also has polycystic kidney disease. She is currently trying to support her other 2 children since her other half decided he wanted to live the single life on xmas eve............

Now get this.........she is struggling badly financially at the moment and has no chance of getting child support until CSA catch up with the father. And thanks to some sort of deruglation that came in last year, she now can't get the ultrasound she needs. Since some new legislation came in, these xray clinics can charge for certain procedures. If she was only 7 weeks pregnant, it would be bulk billed on medicare, but seeing as she is 7 months, it will cost her $135. No if's, No but's, just a flat out $135. This is human life we are talking about - both her and her baby's, and the place the hospital refers you to now charge for it?????

Grrrrr what gives these clinics the right to decide who does and doesn't deserve the tests based on their profit line? makes me ill.

If they could afford (and they could afford it - they have prospered for years) to bulk bill previously, how can they justify the cost now when it comes to a human life?

Just gotta love that user pays system. Give it a few more years and our hospital system will be fully "americanised" and your friend wont even get into a hospital without insurance.

Hope things are ok for your friend Danni, I've been down that path myself recently and it aint much fun.

I have managed to track down the father, after a lovely 30 min abuse/screaming match with his mother on the phone. His mum started carrying on so bad that he heard her from where he was staying 2 doors down and came to see what the fuss was. He has just taken her off to the doctors. ****e you would think with it being the 3 near-to-full-term pregnancy (as opposed to the couple she lost) that she would know when to go to the docs for excess pain in her belly - but this chick at the xray place upset her so much I couldn't get her to go see a doc!!!

Anyway fingers crossed - I can't wait to see this baby - but I can certainly wait another few weeks to see it - for both their sakes!

Ok well Long story short - forget the docs...................forget my poor couch covers that now need a major dry-clean.............

she is sooooooooooooooooooo tiny - fits in my hand - but is breathing on her own - no need for the intensive care unit - she is only in special care unit - not even in a humidicrib - what a little legend this little girl is.................

thoughts and prayers pls ppl that she stays this healthy.................
