Where do we currently sit with assistant coaches?

I have quite a bit of respect for him and what he contributed at Catland. Obviously a hard coach and may not be suited as a senior coach (although the Bullies lack off-field support staff), but I think he could be a terrific get as an assistant. I also think that getting assistants from different but complimentary backgrounds is valuable. I would certainly prefer him coming on board to Bluey McKenna.

The highlighted is hardly a ringing endorsement. I'd prefer Damian Drum to McKenna.

I thikn McCartney has plenty to offer, I doubt he'd be heading this way though.

I think you may stand in a very small and exclusive club (which is fine by the way!)

I can vouch for the above... ;)

FWIW - I think McCartney would now be a front runner for the GC job. The kids at the Dogs apparently loved him, it was the senior players who didn't like what he was doing. He might just be the perfect fit for the Gold Coast list, which could be very scary for the rest of the comp.

McCartney gave the all the players on the Bulldogs list a harsh but true position on where they are at and the senior players didn't like the truth and they spat the dummy .
Its a said state of affairs when an under performing group of players cause a very good coach to loose his job .
The young players on their list were starting to show that they can play .Rebuilding a team can cause a lot of pain but without the pain you don't get the improvement needed to take the next step.

Want to know a secret?

The Bullies have a massive drug problem, have since the 90s, and have a culture of the older boys calling the shots. It's the truth

So he's alright

That's not the only secret the club is trying to bury under the rug.

.. Having said that - i'm a fan of Macca and certainly wouldn't be disappointed if a position opened up for him with us, having said that - this is pie in the sky stuff we're talking here.

Yes it is pie in the sky, but I assume he would be looking for a new home, and given how things went down at the Bullies he may struggle to get a gig immediately at another club as senior coach. An assistant role under Ross, out of the Victorian glare may suit. I also don't mind the idea of having a plausible Lyon replacement sitting next to him, and at the moment we do not have one, with Sumich the main candidate.

Ross Lyon is brutally hard on his players and they love him, the Bulldogs players must be really soft if they can't take criticism.

It's "Only repeating what I've heard" but Ryan Griffin is "allegedly" softer than Mark Murphy !!

Ahhh it all makes sense now. Bob Murphy writes way too well for a short back and sides type.

Maybe he wasn't a very good head coach. You all seem to think it was Griffen that was the problem. And all the "the young players loved him" stuff may not be accurate if the stories that Dahlhaus wanted out are true. Griffen as captain bought his concerns to the board, as he should. If he had lost confidence in the coach after trying to resolve the issue he should request to leave.

Good coaches don't lose players. Maybe after a long spell but not three years in.

They should trade Griffen and grab Patton even with his knee.

Think you may have forgotten to read the OP. You may notice I talk about his time at Geelong, and suggest him as an assistant. But having said that I wouldn't put a line through his name as someone who should never coach again.

A secret............You really do try hard

Every club has a drug culture, not exactly a secret when it is fact.

Aker called out the older players wagging the tail years ago, and while there are ex players dictating coaching or board decisions it will continue.

Bell, Schwabb, Connolly anyone.

I'd be assuming that the Doggies will be making a pitch to Whoosha to be the next head coach then, seeing as he's experienced in these things :p

His investigative skills are certainly unmatched.

"Hey guys, any of you do some drugs?
"Nah Woosh"
"Great. No problems"

Went to Red Sea in Subi a couple years ago, behind me in line were two current Dockers players. Started yarning with them and once we were inside we were buying each other drinks (Smirnoff double blacks, what the f**k were we thinking?).

Anyway the place was dead so they asked if me and my mate wanted to go chill back at theirs and get on the rock. Was pretty shocked, as I don't think there's any two players on the list I would have expected less to be involved in that disgusting shit.

Christ I wish I was a football player.
