I made this a thread because I wanted to say something positive about Ned. It can drift off into the sunset quickly but I need to get this off my chest.

I think we're all agreed that he looked like a rabbit in the headlights post trading period. I think a lot of that was because he didnt know what he should disclose after the rest of the list management team decided to run a closed shop. I think Ned thought he should continue to say nothing much after the trade period ended and he looked a bit like a goose... a scared goose...because it was really time to release the shackles and come clean about the salary cap issues to some degree.

After that, the actual strategies that the collingwood recruiting team demonstrated during draft day, showed a confident ability to try to get things done. I know it wasnt all Ned but he was part of a team that showed an ability to trade on the run and get good outcomes.

And I thought he improved on the members Q&A. He got on the front foot and volunteered to answer questions. He wasn't profound but he had a determined confident look on his face.

I think we're agreed that he had a few challenges when he came on board. He said he extended treloars contract to keep the team together for a chance of a premiership. It makes reasonable sense.

He may end up being a dud but I think he's learning and improving.

I think the last 24 hrs solidified his Possie. He was looking like the sacrificial lamb til Eddie stood up. Maybe he is okay, we may get a chance to find out. He wasn’t the architect of our mess.

well he could have stayed the scared rabbit...

I don't care how "brave" he looks in front of members, he'll always be a scared rabbit to other clubs list managers who will push him around again next off season.

Once you get a reputation as someone who blinks first, the sharks start circling.

As much as people hate Dodora, you need a reputation as a tough uncompromising bastard to get good returns on your trades, something we are VERY bad at.

its a good point. steven wells has done pretty well at geelong by being a nice guy. I think the advantage both he and dodo have is that they are long termers.

i'm not sure if he was initiator of the live trading strategy but it showed a bit of guts and skill. Of course, those evaluating how the teams went on draft night always forget that the pies traded next years first round.... and that gives a pretty good boost to how well the men in the draft booth operated...

if you saw derek hine talk about dodo, he gave a grunt like he didnt enjoy the prospect of dealing with him.... it could be an advantage or disadv...

Fair point.

The best negotiators are not hardnosed like Dodoro eventhough he has mostly been effective.

Doing well in the long term requires acumen and discipline more than it needs mongrel.

The club did not do well at all this year because we had very little leverage and what made it worse was that all the other potential trading parties were well aware of it.

I'm not suggesting Guy is the solution going forward but he did inherit most of the mess he is dealing with.

Agree and I did so at the time of the trade fiasThe failure occurred with the notion that they had to keep the team together. With hindsight they would have let a player go in 2018. What was done, was done it was made with sound logic at the time. The fact we didn’t pull off a premiership is what made everything unravel.

The decision to cut our losses and trade out the overvalued assets I think will prove to be right one. The picks we received I believe will prove to be a fair deal, on the surface we really should have extracted more...it appears everybody but the members knew our dire situation...this is why I don’t understand the secrecy.

Was Guy not involved with the Treloar and Beams deals?

Was Guy not involved with the Treloar and Beams deals?

He said he did the extension on treloar to smooth the payments in order to keep the player. I buy 50% of that but it was more than smoothing, it locked in to the club for too long..

Nothing smooth about dumping a body in a wheelie bin, which is what our trade period felt like.

well he might only be at the club for a year so we dont have to fall in love with him.

the new president in 2022 might get a new guy...

because the new pres will know that we'll make his life sheer hell if he doesnt get someone new... we might do it anyway
Ned has a brother?

Pies haven't won a trade for quite a while yes we did well with Varcoe and Howe but most at time thought we lost the trade or paid overs.

Since Ned has joined we have been awful at holding our ground and receiving fair compensation.

Club need to take a strong stand from now on.

Yes he was and it doesn't reflect well on him... at all.

Doubt it was his decision solely to bring Beams over and heavily backload Treloar's deal so we could keep the squad together.

Can Ned Guy rise to the task and do a better job in the future? I believe that is possible but I'm not wedded to him staying on. I want the best available person for the job in every role at the club.

well we could have held our ground and kept treloar and stephenson. Neither wanted to go.
