We never got rid of David Rodan, I know it is old news now but to this day im still surprised we got rid of him, we had so many worse players on our list back then and he proved how much talent he had before the knee reco.
He would fit into our side perfectly at the moment, swapping through the midfield and forward line, I guess you win some and you lose some.

But this is one that we stuffed up on.

Honestly Rodans current form is great, if he played for a good side he would be recognised as on of the better players of the competition this year, add him to our side and geeee it would look good.

Rodan is great in glimpses, unfortunately he is not one of those players that you can build a club around, and thats what we needed.

Was the right decision to get rid of him. He turns 27 this year so is too old to be part of our successful era. He only puts in the occasional big game anyway, not very consistent.

Kaino, he played OK tonight in a team that lost by 4 goals with everything to play for. He would not have surived last year's debacle with Wallet to be even there this year.

Rodan is a solid player, a decent 4th or 5th midfielder but still inconsistent at the best of times and is now getting on in age. Only averaging 18 touches this year and does go missing a fair bit. Don't really lose a lot of sleep over him to be honest. He wouldn't make a massive amount of difference, more of a cherry on top type of player and not something you build from.

I do get a laugh out of these knee-jerk threads though. I wait with anticipation for the next Schulz one, will be probably waiting a few years though.

Very little opposition to his delisting when it occurred on this board.

People just wished him all the best knowing that it would be good to see him do well without hurting us.

Thats exactly what has happened and I sat back enjoying Shultz kicking goals against the Kangaroos feeling the same.

Wanted Coughlan to get another go as it would be good to see him do well and yet know that he wouldn't make us any better.

Spot on.

I remember watching him at Coburg in his last year with us and he was running in circles getting nowhere near the ball. The club had little option but to delist him at that stage.

Hindsight has 20/20 vision, and we all know that.

not sure how much sense in that tugg, fact is he can actually play...in any case OLD news...under the circumstances at the time he wasn't putting up much of a case to keep him and the fact every club apart from Port A with pick 80 overlooked him, only served to underline our decision at the time.

The only issue that confounds this hole thing is why did we show such little patience with D rod 12mths after a knee having showed quite a bit of promise early on whereas we maintained enormous patience with the likes of JON and Meyer that NEVER showed anything

Roden is a player who is at his best when operating on instinct. When he has time to think about what needs to be done his decision making is poor. His desiion making is also very poor when he has had a run with the ball, it's like he cant settle before disposing of it.

He has improved in these area slightly since being at port- a coaching regime that works on individuals problems and being in a better side (initially anyway) has helped.

He was going nowhere at Richmond and at the time the decision was correct. Sure, under Hardwick he may very well have become a solid footballer but if he had remained at Richmond any longer he would have probably ended up a shattered footballer.

Decision was correct for RFC and for him.
