Identical characters on different shows: Xander Harris VS Seth Cohen

Anyone else notice this?

I used to watch Buffy all the time in high school, have dvd's etc. I'm basically a fanboy.

Then the OC came out and I couldn't put my finger on it at first but the Seth Cohen character seemed remarkably familiar (little bit of trvia: Rachel Bilson appeared in Buffy season 7 in Xander's dream sequence but she looked a bit fugly) and then I was watching Buffy the other day and it HIT ME MAN - Seth is a carbon copy of Xander, except, not as funny.

Xander is just heaps cooler for hte following reasons:

1. He kills vampires and stuff
2. He's funnier
3. He boned Charisma Carpenter and Emma Caulfield (who are/were both hotter than Rachel Bilson and Samaire Armstrong)
4. Saved the world in season 6 by doing nothing other than talking to a psycho witch chick intent on demolishing the earth
5. did you see point 3?

Anyway, Seth only get's a bonus point for the fact he smoked weed. Anyone else agree that these characters are ridiculously similar?

The other one I noticed was Spike's character in Buffy is eerily similiar to Vegeta from Dragonball Z.

Not that its my personal opinion. I never really watched buffy, and rarely watch the OC so i cant really comment...

I don't find them similar. Mainly because Seth is a whiney bitch and Xander is a bad arse who had an eye taken out while he was in the process of saving the world.

I always felt a bit sorry for Xander in Buffy though, apart from the Charisma action. He didn't seem to have much going for him apart from being the comedy foil.

Yeah I hadn't watched Buffy since high school til the other day I saw season dvd's for $50.00 and I was all like "I'll break a hundred for that!" so I bought seasons 6 and 7 and reminisced.

GReat show, very underrated imo - every episode was like a mini-movie.

The best scene was after Faith threw him done for a quicky before he remembered he had to save the school from Zombies.

His great line was "Wait, I just had sex!"

Oz the werewolf eat the head zombie at the end of the episode.

Actually just watching season one of Buffy on DVD at the moment, Xander is one of my all time favourite television characters! Not sure about the comparison though, never watched a full episode of the OC.

no contest... xander was an awesomely cool uncool character who always had the best lines.. but then again Spike was by far the coolest character on Buffy, which is the most underappreciated great show in history.

Xander kinda reminds me of Joxer from Xena ..
Difference is though that Joxer (Ted Raimi) eventually hooked up with a lookalike of Xena - Meg (Lucy Lawless)
Don't think he ever made to second base with his secret love Gabby though, mainly Because cleary there was only (wo)man for Gabs, and that was Xena.
