Meltdown If Geelong were given home finals would they have won the 14, 16, 17 & 19 flags comfortably

Exactly. But we used to be different. When the best sides such as collingwood, saints, swans, and hawks were all playing boring defensive football back in the 2007-13 period geelong was the exception. We played attacking football and did it successfully.

Ok just reading your post about the 2007- 13 period......

Collingwood, yes they were not an attacking side in 2007. From 2008-2013 they were.

Saints: I agree most years they were not a high scoring side. 2009 was the exception they scored 2197 points in 22 games. In 2010 that was 1935 points or 87.35 points a game mainly Because Nick Riewoldt was injured most of the season so Saints were 2-3 goals less with him out.

Swans were probably the least attacking side of the lot. Remarkably averaged 100 points a game during the regular season in 2012, that year they won the flag. And I saw the forward line they had in the 2012 GF and I think, how the hell did they average 100 points a game with this lot.

Cats were an Attacking side from 2007-13. Looking back in the 2011 season, Collingwood scored 2592 points in 22 games, Geelong scored 2548. If you scored 2550 points in the regular season, thats 115 points a game. Partially due to the 37 goals cats scored vs the demons in round 19 of that 186 point win in rnd 19 and the 29 goals cats scored vs the suns in round 20.

Hawks From 2012-15 were the undisputed Attacking side in that period. In 2016 they averaged 96 points a game and have not averaged 100 points a game in any season ever since. Hell in 2019, they scored 100 points or more only once and thats vs the suns late in the game.

For all the talk about the cheat ground, it’s been proven statistically in another thread that under Scott our record away from KP is something like 85-60 (can’t remember the exact figure).

So the ground thing can be brought up all you like, it’s not really the issue

But playing away from KP in the home and away season means playing against lower ranked teams. Finals is a different kettle of finish, so that stat is somewhat misleading.

When was the last time Geelong won a final against a top 4 team?

not when the team you're up against is the raging favourite. Two years in a row the Tigers were raging favourites in a prelim but they choked the first try. Could have had a 3peat if not for the Pies choke tbh
But how? werent you three games clear this year and then nek minute, 42 point turnaround in the prelim? What happened???

QF against the hawks in 16(?)

What do you mean playing away means we are against the lower ranked sides? The pies, Hawks, tigers have all had stints at the top in that period and we play them away every time

You gave a raw stat about GFC winning % at home and winning % away during H&A season. Obviously the H&A season includes games against the bottom 10 teams which you don't get to play in finals as the bottom ten teams don't play finals.

yes but everyone plays home and away against the bottom 10 teams - Scott’s record away is still better, I’m guessing, than most if not all coaches. And we’ve got a decent record against most of the good sides away in home and away matches anyway

What's the point of even having a grand final match?
Flag should just be granted to Geelong before the start of each season. It's only fair.
Better still, why dont Geelong piss off and start their own league, they can play themselves every week at their home ground and be guarenteed a premeirship. What a pack of whinging FLOGS.

Cats are a great home and away team because they love being high on the ladder and having their praises sung. Fawning in the media. Indignation that their dominance could be questioned because it’s a safe distance from finals. They lapped up being top for the entire H&A this season. Finals exit is quickly moved on from because trade week is a hard re-set and the time to sell hope to all 18 teams. Premiers are left to reflect in quiet because of this noise. Cats 22 weeks of adulation, Richmond one. They’ve gamed the system perfectly to create the perception that they’re an imperious dominant team.

They had a good year. Plenty of licking during the home and away.

I still stick by the belief that had the cats beat the swans in that 2016 preliminary final at the MCG, cats would of beaten the dogs in that 2016 GF
