Who will be our two starting ruckmen?

We won't recruit Warnock to be a no.2 ruckman, so, even though I haven't seen much of him, let's assume Bailey wants him to be our go-to ruckman.

If so, is PJ or Jamar our back-up big man?

I rekcon PJ, but only just.

Will definately be good to have three blokes at about the same level battling it out to get a game.

(Mods, please don't merge this thread into the Warnock one; I reckon it deserves its own place)

PJ by a mile, he is the perfect back-up ruckman, he isn't able to play number one ruck, but what he does as a back-up is fantastic, his HO to advantage is fantastic and his work around the ground is a lot better than Jamar's.

In pretty much every game he's played PJ has been the 2nd ruck, While Jamar has been both, and it's only playing as number has he improved.

What is Warnock like as a ruckman? I know he's bloody tall, but does he get a lot of hit outs or more of an around-the-ground mover? (hopefully he's both).

I agree that PJ is a much better ruckman around the ground but the only thing that might go in Jamar's favour is that Warnock is a real athlete by the looks of him and might not offer the grunt Jamar does in the middle.

Yeah, I reckon Jamar would be best to move on anyway, for us - and him..

He has the tools to be a no1 ruckman at another club and we dont really need him - as we are building and he wont be around when our window is open, id much rather our young midfielders work with a ruckman who will be there when we start to come good..

He is an absolute gun of an athlete, his volume of HO's and his tapwork aren't fantastic but they are improving, he's 21 and has had 3 years in the system, but he is still stick thin, once he gets a bit more size about him the amount of HO's he wins will improve.

Warnock is 200cm +

If he can't ruck, something has gone very wrong.

Warnock is 205 cm, but he's only 95 kg.
For my comparison, Aaron Sandilands is 211 cm and 125 kg.

For someone that height his weight should be 105+

He go's alright at the centre bounce but around the ground he's not strong enough physically to contest against someone like a David Hille etc.

Haha "PJ just".

Jamar would be lucky to stay on the list if Warnock comes, let alone get the Number 2 possie.
Having said that, out of the three Jamar is the only proven tap ruckman. PJ has been a #2 this season and Warnock has played 12 AFL games. If we got Warnock it would be great, he has the making of a good #1 but I wouldn't get rid of Jamar just for the sake of it unless we were desperate for room on the list. Having lost White already I wouldn't get carried away. One of the reasons PJ has looked so great around the ground this year is because Jamar was holding his own in the ruck and it freed PJ up.

He's only 21 though.

How many kids over 200cm are 125kg at that age? Give him a couple of years and he'll be looking like the Russian.

That was the point I was making, he needs a few years to bulk up before he can hold his own in physical contests against other ruckman.
That's probably the main reason his volume of hitout's isn't fantastic at the moment.

Personally with Warnock I'd have PJ doing more rucking than him. Unless we can really bulk up Warnock we don't want to burn him out so I'd let him do about 50% of the rucking. I would be fuming if we kill the kid by continually rucking him week in week out.

If we get Warnock next season, and he doesn't magically turn to shit like a certain Adelaide ruckman we got, then he would start in the ruck and rotate with PJ.

Jamar would definately stay on the list, but would need to improve a lot more if he is to break into the side.

You make an interesting point davey_magik. From all reports, Warnock is happy in WA and at Fremantle, but wants more game time. I agree with you that he is simply not physically ready, but he obviously doesn't. Carlton are supposedly chasing him hard and have offered him the number 1 role, but I'm not sure on what kind of % split they have offered.

If we land Warnock.. First thing we do is lock him i the gym with Cale Morton...

We could probably get away with playing Warnock, Jamar and PJ in the same side, cause PJ hasn't exactly got the typical skills of a big man and he could play in the forward line, which is where i like him. Warnock and Jamar could share the ruck load as both are pretty good tap ruckmen. Having said that if there is any interest in Jamar in the trade period (i cant see why) we should deal him.

If Dean Bailey and co are pinning there hopes on Warnock to fix our rucking stocks there in for a rude shock. I've watched him play a fair bit this year and he is no more than a very average ruckman.. Can't take an overhead mark, no good below his knees, and built like a straw door. Look he might come ok but only take him thru the PSD. I'll be disappointed if we give away a 2nd rounder for him!!

Jamar is a *******, hes probably the worst senior player we have has since A.Nicholson. Please someone shoot him and put him out of his misery!!!!

Bit harsh mate! Didn't you get to witness Weetra's two games this year?

Obviously with comments like that he didn't see a game this year.

Jamar & Nicho were/will never be stars, but they are far from the worse players to pull on a melbourne jumper in the last 10 years
