After today's game I am a convert to James Clement and would suggest that he is probably the premier defender in the league. Always thought he was over rated, but I'm a believer....

Bad luck today fellas, but I think we deserved the win based on our midfield dominance. good luck for the rest of the season, I don't think it's all doom and gloom for either of our teams.

Clemo is a champ. Shane Wakelin is also a very good defender.

Congrats on the win, but I'll disagree and suggest that both teams are ********!
Sometimes an ugly win is a great starter for the year, I hope so anyway, but some good signs. Could be worse, we could barrack for Richmond or Hawthorn.

I don't see how Clement is 'over-rated' by some people here in bigfooty. Just watch him and he rarely is beaten in a single contest let alone by his oponent. I think he is one of the the premier defenders in the AFL. The 5 defenders in the AFL that are a class above everyone else are (in no order):
- Scarlett
- Michael
- Clement
- C.Cornes
- C.Johnson
McPharlin and Nathan Brown (MELB) are not far off along with Leppitch who is not as dangerous/effective as he used to be.

Clement is an out and out star
Every game the champ puts in non stop.....I have had nothing but respect since he came to Collingwood.
thanks for the post dude and well done on the win.

Chad cornes is one of the best loose, possesion getting defenders in the league possibly the best but is also very jason cloke in his lack of accountability for his direct opponent. When the opposition play through his opponent like pavlich did in rd1 and reiwoldt in prelim final of '04 hes can play ordinary as they come. but fk hed be handy at carlton

Chad Cornes wins games though. Many key defenders get beaten once or twice. Most of the time CC has a great 25 possesion game from half back and his oponent gets maybe one or two goals.
I don't see how C.Cornes can be overrated just because he is loose when he wins games. The games flashiest and most skillfull players often play loose. I can understand people questioning J.Cloke in his great 2002 season as he didn't get it enough or wasn't damaging enough with it.

C.Cornes played a great game on Brown in the gf though.
