I think its time to make a call on Impey. This is his 4th year on our list, and I have seen enough to think that he cannot cut it at the top level, and to persist with him in our team is a kick in the guts to any of the players at the Maggies who are deserving of a spot in the A's.
I know he offers us pace, but he needs to be doing more than applying forward 50 pressure.
How many of you guys also think, a guy in his 4th year, should be showing more than he is?
For a reasonably high draft pick (I am thinking 21, but more than likely I am wrong), I think he has hit his ceiling and its probably time he was dropped, and not recalled until he can play 4 or 5 great games at the Maggies. However I am of the opinion that he is not capable of taking his game to the level required, for him to be picked based on merit every week.
I am not calling for him to be delisted, but I would not be adverse to us trading him.
I personally can only recall him playing 3 great games in the 3 and a half years he has been with us.
Below is a list of the following criticisms I have of him:
-Disposal is terrible.
-Goal kicking extremely suspect.
-Decision making is awful.
-Impact on games is minor.
-His tackling is clumsy.
-He also lacks the 2 way running needed, for the modern game.
I think its time for Ken to act, and send a message to Impey that its time to step up or step on down to the Maggies and earn your spot.
This post was going to be made last week after the Essendon game, where after watching closely, I noted in 3 or 4 of the first 5 goals Essendon kicked, in the lead up play to them, Impey was either involved in a poor tackle, lack of running or poor skill execution that handed the ball back to the Bombers. Watch the first quarter closely if you disagree.
But after watching todays game, I just thought enough is enough, and its clearly time something is done at selection.
