Well, I've decided that Petterd must be a part of my team, but the problem is that only one of my midfielders isn't selected on the exact same merits.

I have:
RODAN, David (PTA) $226,400
MURPHY, Marc (CAR) $296,700
PRIDDIS, Matthew (WCE) $244,100
SELWOOD, Joel (GEE) $173,600
HADLEY, Richard (BRL) $112,800
LAPPIN, Nigel (BRL) $196,400

HURN, Shannon (WCE) $190,000
GIBBS, Bryce (CAR) $185,300

Out of the group, Lappin would be the most untouchable (unless he goes down with injury again). Hadley I have recently traded for, and his value is still too low to consider trading.

I guess I'm thinking along a few lines:
1. Priddis, Rodan, and Selwood are all pretty good point-scorers and all have a bit to gain.
2. Murphy is potentially overvalued and hasn't done well enough to justify an initial $300k spending on. But he has a strong upside...
3. Hurn is on the fringe of West Coast selection. Although he's been good, chances are he'll miss games as people like Fletcher, Embley, Butler and Cousins return, and while Morton, Sampi & co are pushing for selection.
4. Gibbs hasn't shown enough yet, or scored well enough. Will Pagan play him through the middle more?

I think it's between Gibbs and Hurn. If I trade Murphy I think my midfield might be just a bit too weak. So... pros, cons, and completely different tangencies? Cheers!

Would probably trade Hurn. He isn't likely to score much better than Gibbs and is under pressure for his place n the side while Gibbs is pretty much a guarantee to play 22 games bar injury.

I got Murphy to and am hoping he can turn his form around.

Not sure whether or not "tangency" is a word, but its' good to read a post where someone has put a bit of effort / thought into it - instead of the usual tripe that often passes for content in these parts.

Whoever you trade for, yo will be making $$$ thanks to Petterd's price.

Of your lot:

* I can't see Rodan going up that much more in value, for the remainder of the season he strikes me as a 5th or 6th mid.
* Murphy, with Stevens out for the season, will be copping much more attention from the opposition thus potentially affecting his DT output.
* Priddis has finally won / cemented his place in the midfield. For the first four rounds, he was coming on with 10-12 mins remaining in each of the first and second quarters, then playing the majority of the second half. He is now seeing more gametime and with that his DT scores should at the least hold, if not improve.
* Selwood, for all the good wraps, has yet to cement his spot and will most likely be in and out all year to protect his young body. When he's in, he should outperform Rodan, but not being a regular makes him bench material.
* Hadley I don't rate, and Lappin just has to stay on the park to become GOLD. Hurn is vying with too many for groundtime, and Gibbs is a DT bench player at best.

If I was coaching your squad, I seriously consider Murphy, yet surprisingly he is your most expensive centre. It would seem a waste to trade out Hurn having not yet played, but he'd be next cab off the rank. Rodan / Gibbs in a tie for third.

Tangency is definitely a word :)

Your point on Murphy is a very strong one. The lack of Stevens will mean he cops more attention, but at the same time you could say it gives him greater opportunity. He still coped some rpetty heavy tags last year and did ok.

I'm leaning towards keeping him for now. I'll assess how much he needs to score next week before I decide how much I could lose by keeping him (assuming he performs poorly). The bonus is that if I make another trade, I'll have the money to upgrade Murphy to an elite player.

i guess i'm on the same boat.. dont know who to trade out

GRIFFEN, Ryan (WBD)$241,300
$-9,600 ($-20,700)

SELWOOD, Joel (GEE)$173,600 - do i keep him in? or sell him out now? will he continue to rise?
$50,800 ($+77,300)

JONES, Nathan (MEL)$247,700
$0 ($-11,500)

GIBBS, Bryce (CAR)$185,300 - will he score more as the year goes on?
$3,000 ($+68,000)

HOULI, Bachar (ESS)$82,300 - will he ever play a game?
$0 ($+0)

any help would be appreciated.. first yaer of playing DT so yeah

My first year too mate, but it's gotta be Houli. Any gain you get from Houli is minimum three weeks away. We don't even know how he'll adapt to AFL anyway. Petterd has stepped up to the top level straight away, and you'll probably net a 40-50k rise next week for him.

The only other thing I'd consider is how many trades you've already made.

Out Higgins for me on SC. Pettard is a gun.

Will he play the remaining games considering the Dee's injury list? They showed faith in Bartram last year, same goes with Ricky?
On this form there's no way you can drop him, his disposal is just so silky smooth, a definite starter over Ward. Although it could be interesting when Frawley starts pushing for a spot and Bartram gets over his injury...

For me: Petterd in for MArc Murphy, Darcy on bench for Paddy Ryder and then trade Bock for someone good. Is that a waste of 2 trades.

1st trade In: Pettard Out: Gibbs
2nd trade In: N Lappin Out: L Thomas or Djekurra
is it worth jumping on the lappin bandwagon he'll prob just go get hurt again..
im looking at trades this week (not that ill trade till fri)
rodan for petterd.
brennan for hughes.
then will have money for upgrades.. like 370grand to upgrade kozi or bock or adcock or hudson or someone like that...
both rodan and brennan are in my 22 but confident that hadley and kozi can perform the same till i upgrade..
down to 11 trades after this week..
looking at 8 left by round 12

well i've got 16 trades left with 188k in the bank, i was thinking about trading brennan for hall and someone for petterd.. still not sure who
it seems like houli will play soon.. so i dont really want to waste a trade if he's goign to do well. on the other hand may not play at all
does anyone think gibbs will improve anymore

By that time. Who knows with Gibbs, as he just went down 6,700 afta the last round.

Im debating over the whole Murphy, Gibbs, Brennan, Lappin situation also.

I currently have Brennan doin wat he does best down back (not scoring well)

Murphy not playing that great in the Centre. Same goes for Gibbs.

I want to get Lappin into my team and i would like to trade out Brennan for Waters ASAP.

Its a hard decision.

Oh and add to that... Petterd is looking the goods as a cash cow or possible player for the rest of the year (Good for the bench)

personally i think cleve hughes is a much better pick up.
you know he'll play all games possible if not injured and he'll be consistent.
petterd could just be a flash in the pan and will struggle to retain a spot when mclean, batram, green, whelan, wheatley etc return.
also there are many more centres who will get games and score 70+ rather than any new young fwds

thoughts?

Well, one's a forward and the other a midfielder. I've already picked up Hughes.

I'm thinking I'll trade Murphy and use the cash next week to upgrade Rodan.

Rischtelli out for goodwin and gibbs out for petterd

then next week:
bock (unless he dramatically improves this week) out for mcphee and hudson/darcy out for cox

I think risky will really struggle to get scores of 70-80 plus now that lappin is back in the side. Anyone have an opinion on these trades?

He's played 2 games mate.

No guarantee that Daniher will even stick with him once seasoned players start returning from injury.

Who remembers Matt Bate last year? He was DT gold for a while. Except that Daniher didnt play regularly in the 2nd half of the year.

Melbourne were also playing finals footy last year and the competition for places in the team would have been off the rickter. This year they will be trying to avoid the wooden spoon. Daniher will have to try and bring younger players through. As long as pettard keeps scoring 50-60+ he will hold his spot.
