Kane mentioned that there has been talk about the lack of top-notch independant Crows sites.

I have been thinking about starting and hosting team sites with more of a blog-like style, like Footydraft.com, so if we have some good, mature writers on here with the time to do daily or near-daily updates (or share daily updates with one or two other editors) I'm happy to set the site up. We'd use some good software to help make updates easy and we'd promote it here as an Official BigFooty Unofficial Site, putting a link on the main menu bar and so on.

Thoughts?

Good thinking, it would be great as the condition of the telstra run sites is not so good, from memory there was something else in the works but i'm sure my bigfooty superiors will remember.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=146653&page=1&pp=15&highlight=sites - not sure if this will help at all.

I am most interested in this, Groves. While the board is great already for news thanks to macca23, Stiffy, and everybody else who diligently posts any thing they think is useful news, I'm a latecomer to a lot of threads and three to four pages-long threads full of mini-updates takes a lot of time for me to soak up.

You could divide the news stories/pieces into:

Match reports

Injuries/Forecasted returns

Rookie/SANFL player updates

Tribunal news regarding our reported players and also players who are reported for striking/etc one of our players

Coach & Coaching Staff news/Off-field news - these could be in one category

'Player Spotlight' - sort of scrutinising how said player for is fairing at whatever point in the year the spotlight is done.

Rebutting Idiot Journalists

EDIT: Who's good with Photoshop/Frontpage here? What's the template like if it is already designed?

:D Yeah, a Media Watch section would be good! I'd contribute to that!

Leigh's subject areas are a good idea. Makes it more easily "browsable".

Also, (perhaps obviously) a links section - to quality info only.

Also - an Opinion section? Bit of an overlap with "Media Watch" perhaps.

There are people on this board who write excellent stuff - training reports and opinion pieces in particular - far better than some paid journalists produce

Maybe scratch that idea in favour of transcribing articles for the site - it'd save going to four or five separate websites and trawling for AFC news. It'd also be great for the print-only stories.

I'm just popping in and like the idea but what would happen if the site turned into Neil Craig bashing if the Crows take the spoon?

We'd just give it to you to put along with the truckload the Bulldogs already have.

what are the odds, seeing as you guys are raging favourites for the spoon yet again!

must be depressing to be rubbish all year, every year, over and over again. ;)

Have a go at it mate i would certaintly visit the site while on the net

I'm revisiting this idea. Have a few other sites on the boil and we could easily slot in an Adelaide site if we had some quality, mature contributors with time to add daily entries.

Contact me if you're interested.

It brings tears to my eyes when I think about the 'old' Crows website. Ahhh the forums!!! I miss it. The new Telstra sites are rubbish. I'd be all for a decent independent Crows site.

Yeah but the proposal here is for a BigFooty sponsored Crows website, so it wouldn't technically be 'independent' as such. Not saying the idea shouldn't go ahead but that it wouldn't be fully funded BY crows fans FOR crows fans.

Shrug, I don't think who funds it is the issue, it's who RUNS it and provides the content. If BigFooty can provide the infrastructure without exercising editorial control, all the better IMHO.

I can't say I'd have a lot to offer, time or expertise-wise (I am humbled by some of the training and match reports I have read on this board, and so would be most journalists :p ) but I'd be happy to chip in from time to time.
