My dog was hit by a car last Thursday and has spent the last week in the vets getting treatment for his injuries. In the end it will probably cost me around $1000 in vets bills. I am willing to pay this money to get him home and well again.

Are the people on here prepared to pay for their pets to be treated or would they 'cut their losses' and move on?

I wouldn't think twice about the costs, neither would most animal lovers.

Animals are part of your family, your 4 legged kids :D , you wouldn't withhold medical treatment for your 2 legged kids, so I don't see why the 4 legged ones, should be any different.

Well, when I went to bring the cage in from outside, one side of her body was covered in blood. She's been picking at her feathers and the bits under her wing. Keeps closing her eyes every now and then ... usually a sign with Lovebirds.

:(

I don't think it'll get to that, for some reason I think she's just woozey from the blood loss (she isn't a big bird, pretty skinny) ...

If it was a dog, I would pay for the treatment.

If it was a cat, I would shoot it in the head.

Two weeks ago my cat did her knee. Don't ask me how, but she did all her ligaments. She had a total knee reconstruction.

Anyway it cost me $1100, and I was quite happy to pay it.

The money doesn't matter too much to me, the more annoying thing is that I have to keep her locked up for about 4 weeks and she really doesn't like it. Its a 3 month recovery, which is a real pain in the butt.

Poor little thing.

If my pet was hurt yes I would spend as much as I needed to for its treatment.

UNLESS it was dying and in pain and there was something they thought might help prolong its life but might cause more suffering, under those circumstances I think it's more humane to let it go than make it suffer just so I have more time with it.

Took my dog to the vet a few years back to have her leg stitched (under a general), because she ran into my downpipe & opened up a decent size wound. Would always pay to treat her, unless there was no hope of her getting better.

Thrawn, I can't really comment on any of these pets, as my family hasn’t had any.

As for what I would do for the pets we do have:

Dog: Treatment for sure, money wouldn't matter - If it dies buy a new one.
Cat: Take no notice of its injuries and ailments, or simply shoot it - if another cat turns up at my door, there would be no feeding it!
Fish: Flush the toilet - buy more
Yabby: Flush the toilet - poach some more from a farmers dam
