WESTERN Bulldogs defender Easton Wood is hopeful he'll play again this season after scans on his injured ankle revealed no bone damage.

The All Australian fell awkwardly during a spoil in the Bulldogs' win over Essendon, and will spend several days in a moon boot with a ligament injury.

Wood said he was optimistic he will be ready for the Dogs' finals campaign.

With the Bulldogs already locking away a berth in September, the 26-year-old will miss Sunday's clash with Fremantle, and have two weeks to get himself right for an elimination final.

"It's as good a news we could have hoped for (as) I don't have a break or any ruptured ligaments, which is great because I thought I was in a bit trouble" Wood said.

"(I) probably won't play this week because I have to wait to see how it settles down.

"I'm not sure of the timeframe just yet, but we're hoping it will be all right."

Wood's loss is expected to be offset by the return of veteran defender Dale Morris from a hamstring complaint for the clash with the Dockers.

Bulldogs football manager Graham Lowe told the club's website the 33-year-old would make the trip to Perth, but was unsure if Matt Suckling would join his teammate on the plane as the former Hawk battles a lingering Achilles concern.

Morris and Suckling have both missed three of the past four weeks and the duo would be huge inclusions to a backline already missing skipper Robert Murphy and key defender Marcus Adams.

"Dale has trained really well over the past couple of weeks so he's in a position to be available this week," Lowe said.

"Matty's got to get through this week in terms of training and preparation.

"If he ticks those boxes he'll be available for selection as well."

Wow, that's a huge relief. Seems possible that he gets out of the boot next monday to wednesday and he'll still have 10 days or so to get up for the first final. Much more possible than i thought.

Wood and Macrae would be big Ins for that first final with Stringer, Moz and hopefully Campbell and Suckling back this week

The week off before finals is worth its weight in gold. I don't care how many people knock it, I hope it's here to stay.

Overheard Moz talking to McCartney at the VFL on Sunday, could've easily played against Essendon but with the quality of opponent and in the interest of playing it absolutely safe he stayed out.

Yay. Rather take the extra week and get him right then playing then missing the next week like after North.

Suckling not on the list ???

Morris will play this week, macrae is 50/50 this week as is suckling

Libba appretly has said he'll be back in September

Wood was in a moon boot at training tonight, but he should be fine

Adams I don't know, my feel has been all along that bevo wants to be 100% with him. Hard to read on this one

Foot injuries are really tough to overcome. Happy to lose him for 2016 if it means he gets a clear run next yr. Last thing we want is to rush him back and he has issues with it for the rest of his career.

Adams is probably too long an injury to come back and impact a final, especially for a first year player! Put him on ice for next year.

Libba, look how he came back from a knee! if he's fit he plays.

Macrae? Kids a durability machine, sounds like he's ahead of schedule and will slide into the team 100%. He should play.

Woody, brilliant news on him! Should be right to go 100%

Moz also sounds good, Suckers not as good but still hopefull.

Geez we could really do some damage, love that were flying under the radar now too. If results went our way and we slipped into the 4 id be loading up on us.

Inb4 my hopes are shat on and we lose more key players on the weekend...

Big guy needs a rest. Think he's locked in a spot week 1 of the finals, like the idea of Will and BTC fighting it out this weekend for the first ruck spot (Ash Hansen probably doesn't like this idea so much though)
