Good effort by the boys against Brisbane....let ourselves down with kicking however can never question the endeavour.....good effort considering our injuries.

I'm getting concerned that this will be the year the could have been because of injuries.....If Burns in particular is out next week.....what kind of a forward line are we sposed to have.....let's hope all players come back within the next few weeks so we can build some momentum up in the 2nd half of the season.

Crowell did his hammy, Begley didn't look too flash, and Bodey looked to be having trouble with his left shoulder 5AA commentators seemed to think Burns would be out for about 4-5 weeks!

Since those halycon days of the Wizard Cup everything's gone down hill!

I listened to Ben Hart this morning on 5AA and he said that:

Begley will be available for next week.
Crowell did a slight hammy and is a good chance to play next week
Burns could miss 1-2 games.

Carey should be OK to come in this week. Welsh should resume with Westies and Burton, Stevens and Smart will miss another week at least.

Well if Burton, Steven & Welsh all require more time, will we make only the one change - Carey for Burns. If the weather is OK, I would like Hentschel to also come in & play a 3rd tall in the forward line. Burns will be a big loss as he has been our most dangerous forward of late.

Going by the AFL website's injury list from last week (hasn't been updated this week yet)

Then we could possibly have Smart, Burton and possibly Carey back with Stevens and Welsh back next week, although I would put money on Welsh playing for Westies as he hasn't had any footy, and would play there for some weeks and find some of the footy, until ready to be selected.

However I don't think we should risk and players by trying to rush them in too early.

It has been reported that next week Carey should return to the Crows side & Welsh/Burton both through the SANFL. Would either of these 2 players be worth risking bringing straight back into the Crows line-up? BTW, could afford to bring both directly back in.

I doubt that we would want to bring both Welsh and Burton back this week. 2 very underdone players in the one side would be just too much IMO.

Welsh should definitely come back through the SANFL to get match touch because he hasn't played AFL at all this year.

Burton would be a reasonable risk because he was playing at AFL level before injury and was getting plenty of the ball.

Carey would be a real bonus.

My immediate instinct when I read your question was to answer Burton, so Burton it would have to be.

The logic behind that is that Burton is well and truly proven at this level.

My original choice of Hentschel was based on no Burton being available.

Adelaide forward Ronnie Burns is expected to miss the next two matches – including the round-10 clash with his former club, Geelong – after straining an adductor muscle against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Burns had to be replaced late in the second quarter of the match the Lions won by 18 points – 16.11 to 12.17 – after outscoring the Crows 9.8 to 4.8 in the second half.

Adelaide communications manager Phil Harper said early assessments were that Burns would be unable to play against the Western Bulldogs at AAMI Stadium next Sunday and Geelong at Skilled Stadium the following Sunday.

Harper said Andrew Crowell (suspected hamstring strain) would be examined again on Monday and could still be available to play against the Bulldogs. Crowell went off halfway through the last quarter at the Gabba.

And James Begley had recovered quickly from a last-quarter knock to the head and should be fit to play his second game for the Crows next Sunday after an encouraging debut, following his 36 appearances for St Kilda over the past four years.

Nigel Smart, Wayne Carey and Mark Stevens (knees) and Brett Burton (ankle) will be assessed again this week, with early indications being that Smart probably has the best chance of resuming against the Bulldogs.

All four could well be ready to play against Geelong.

Adelaide has revised its assessment of Ronnie Burns’ injury and he is one of seven Crows who will have fitness tests this week.

Burns strained an adductor muscle against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba last Saturday night and was expected to miss the next two matches – against the Western Bulldogs at AAMI Stadium on Sunday and against Geelong at Skilled Stadium the following Sunday.

But, after being examined again on Monday, Burns was given a 50-50 chance of playing against the Bulldogs.

He will be tested at training on Wednesday, as will James Begley (head knock), Andrew Crowell (hamstring spasm), Wayne Carey (knee), Brett Burton (ankle), Scott Welsh (thumb) and Nigel Smart (knee).

Begley is certain to be fit this week after an encouraging debut for the Crows last Saturday night, and Crowell is expected to be OK, too.

Carey, like Burns, is in the 50-50 category while Burton and Welsh are better than 50-50 and Smart is considered less than 50-50.

Burton ruptured a ligament in his right ankle against St Kilda in round two, so he has missed the past six matches. If he is fit to resume, the match committee has to decide whether to recall him immediately or give him a run with Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL.

Welsh has not played for the Crows this season because of an adductor strain and a ruptured thumb ligament that required surgery. He was troubled by osteitis pubis last season and was restricted to 13 AFL matches, so his comeback, this week or next, will be with West Adelaide in the SANFL.

Mark Stevens (knee) is still at least a week away from resuming. He and Smart may be ready to play against Geelong on Sunday week.

So then, hopefully if we don't get any injuries this week, then after next week our injury list will look like this:

Rutten Broken Thumb Test
Schell Knee 2 weeks
Reilly Callarbone 2 weeks

Assuming that all players come back when said....Welsh would be playing for Westies for a few weeks, possibly Burton playing for the Eagles for a week or 2.

That would hopefully mean that for the Geelong match, Stevens, Carey, Burns & Smart will br playing and possibly Burton.

This is extremely good news as it will take a few weeks for the players to find some form again. Hopefully we don't get too many more injuries for the rest of the season.

Can't wait till Welsh plays for Adelaide again, probably in 3 to 4 weeks time.

Yeah same...how long has it been!!! He deserves a good run now and hopefully he can continue on from the form he displayed early last year.
Any more injuries from the dude and i think i will have to un-stitch the number 17 off my crows guernsey and replace it with number 33 ( considering HE doesnt get another collarbone injury!)

My info is that Carey, Burns and Burton should play all being well. But the club definitely won't take any risks.

Smart might still be another week as will Stevens.

Carey trined today and depending on how he pulls up tommorow he will be available.

Burton is doubtful for this week and will most likely miss

Bodester's knee is not as bad as first thought but he will miss a couple

Burns is a 50-50 but is likely to miss.

Stevo will play this week but it appears likely that he'll play for the Eagles against Glenelg.

Biglands, Welsh and Roo should be available.

It looks like we might be getting a few back from injuries.
