I was speaking to 2 senior members of the St Kilda coaching staff on friday night and they both were expressing an interest into why polo hadn't.
A. been getting a regular game
B. was playing BP and not in the midfield rotation

they also asked why Cleve wasn't playing, said sarge was a spud, which is true.

I remarked how we struggle to accurately kick the ball into the forward 50 from when we are 55-60 out and a flood or zone is applied, i suggested a solution is for Newy to run past ala gilbee and have a crack from 55 he can make the distance.

They both agreed it's a good thing to do, i think goddard or gram do it at St Kilda, how long is it since someone tried to do this for us?

gee if other teams coaching staff can see that about our list what does it say for Terry and our head in the sand assistants?

Ive seen tambling do it a couple of times lately

If we persist with having second raters in the midfield, we will forever suffer with that last kick into the F50 being flawed. Its not about delivery, its about getting the delivery happening without having to take a month of sundays before you work out if you can get it there.
Get the best players into the midfield and half our problems will be solved, if you want them to actually be solved TW. ;)

Alot of the problem isn't the midfielders delivery into the forward line. It's the forward set up which allows the forward line to be flooded quickly. The midfielders are usually kicking to a flooded forward line and the are forced to kick long. This is usually rebounded by the opposition. Morton was a victim to this bombing last week and he was beaten by Richards who is 10cm taller. Morton should never have been dropped. The forwards should be starting every centre bounce in the goal square and giving themselves the whole 50m arc to lead, but they start every bounce either scattered in the 50 arc or forming a spine from the goal square to the centre square which only allows them to lead to the boundaries(but they are scattered again once the ball comes forward anyway)

the basis of the problem lies in 2 areas. The forwards, especially the tall forwards dont have any plan nor is there any plan, to immediately make a lead, when the ball is not in the hands of the player who will eventually deliver it. i.e. we are reacting, instead of pro-acting. This when fixed and when the best players are part of that unit that will deliver the last telling blow into the F50, is addressed, we will see a turn around.
Watch Polo, Lids, Cogga and when and if Cotchin is in, the moment they take possesion, its deliver to the option that counts, whether it be with a left foot lolly pop into the space, or whatever, its done in an instant. Watch the rest, especially Tuck, and it takes them forever to work it out, purely because they havent the skill to excute the right kick, with any foot at the drop of a hat.
If you watch J. Brown, his leads begin before the player who delivererd it to him, had it. The defender has no chance when that happens. ;)

yeah and so often the opposition have a nice open forward line and have space to lead to and they'll take the mark close to goal on a small angle. By playing JON, Simmonds up forward we will look slow, stand in the wrong spot and just congest our own forward line. That's why we must bring in Hughes. He knows where to lead and he stand close to goal. Same as Morton. How's he supposed to outmark Ted Richards when the ball is continually bombed high to Richo land. With Richo out of the side, Hughes will provide a good leading target and Morton will be able to crumb or Morton can make a lead because he knows it won't be bombed in. Tuck usually bombs it in because of our setup. But he'll look a better player with targets to kick to

Which is actually a credit as to how well McGuane has improved his game this year. His opponents could be forgiven for kicking bags of goals.
We need to get back to the Thursfield, Moore, McGuane formula with Rance in there as well and with newman and Connors as running defenders.

yeah. Thursty has to play FB and Mcguane CHB. Rance on the next tall. Moore is 189cm and 84kg. He is not a KPP. He should be playing on players like Steve Johnson and Milne. He's versatile but he shouldn't be playing on Brown. Newman and Tambo would be my other defenders. Connors needs to get some discipline

was it at crown (the back way not the river side) cause i walked past crown around 3 and saw lyon and nick in the foyer.

Nah it wasn't crown it was after the Friday game because they told me Essendon had won, around 10:30-11:00 Friday night, chatted for a while until i felt a little overwhelmed about chatting to an aFL coach about tactics and the fact he was willing to discuss those things candidly.

Moore is actually 190cm, but yes you are right he should not be KPD. However saying that Thursfield is a KPD is a bit rich considering he is 1 cm taller and 1 kg heavier. Solution to this conundrum? Neither are KPD.
