Internally, surely we are still thinking finals?

Obviously Terry will be just trying to control the damage and focus on getting the boys up for a win this week, but do you reckon the players would still have the belief that finals are possible, if there game was to lift to an appropriate level? Do you think they've talked finals this week and are setting themselves to turn the season around against the odds?

I'm getting the feeling everyone's heads have dropped, and Saturday could be a walk over. I hope Terry isn't just going through the motions this week, I hope that the Tigers genuinely believe that their season is still alive. Because really it is....

Yes, i've seen all four games and understand that we wont win one this season playing like we have been. I think we are better than we have displayed this season though.

Judging by what was written in Caroline Wilsons artcile yesterday, I don't think they are. They might say things to the media to keep fans happy, but I think their main focus for the rest of the year will be to salvage what they can out of the year. I'm tipping we'll be seeing quite a few more kids being given opportunities in the coming weeks.

Surely the coach is still thinking finals, it's the only way he can keep his job. Either he has already conceded it's all over and will develop the list or there is friction within the board and at selection committee. Wallace will want to play experienced players to try and get wins while they will want to play kids.

I get the feeling that Tuesday nights meeting revolved around Camerons belief that the list isn't as great as they initially thought.

Its interesting that since Tuesday there has been nothing coming out of the club that has mentioned finals. Most of it has been about focusing on getting a better performance out of the players and maybe even winning a game along the way.

On top of that perhaps Wallace has been told that he may well keep his job if he can show that the list is on the right track in terms of kids coming through. Thats why I think the focus may well switch to developing the list.

Our culture will mean, as soon as the opposition gets a good start on us, its game over.

No thats wrong bloke. Once the opposition gets a head start that is when we dig deep and come home like a steem train and unfortunately sometimes we just miss out.

You have to remeber the Tiger is more ferrotious when its back is to the wall and it has to run to catch up.

We will give it a shake. Just keep the fate.

I actually think the poor start might release some pressure and we will hopefully revert to a more open, free-flowing gameplan instead of this rolling zone shit that we have attempted so far this year. That is of course unless Wallace is too stuborn to let it go.

You're so delusional it's not funny. If the going gets tough we just lie down. We have been spanked so many times in recent history and I'm sure teams look forward to playing us because we won't fight back.

...we have 7 games we should expect to win, and 11 other games where we do have a realistic chance IF we play well (marked as 50/50 just to indicate that).

If we win 5/11 of these games we're in with a realistic finals chance. That might work out as...

Beating Sydney and North once each with a loss against each (both are very vulnerable on their day).

Beating Carlton and Collingwood (good record against both with worse lists than our present one).

Beating one Adelaide club of the two (have beaten both under Wallace).

Do that and beat Essendon twice, West Coast twice, Melbourne, Freo, plus Brisbane at the G (the 7 games we should expect to win) and we should sneak into the finals with 12 wins.

It's hardly an impossible task and I'd be extremely disappointed if we weren't internally confident of doing the above.

Fair enough, some people will say I've made unreasonable assumptions about our potential form considering our losses so far, but we shouldn't be aiming any lower. Perhaps most importantly, we can still afford a few more matches where we play like crap against a side we *should* beat as long as we win 2-3 of the more difficult games (e.g. upsetting one of Hawthorn, Saints or the Dogs, or beating both Adelaide sides, or beating one of Sydney or North twice), and still play finals.

We've made life a bit more difficult for ourselves, but finals is still a very achievable goal.

I'm not going to waste time speculating about maybe's and what-if's.

While we remain a mathematical chance then I see zero point in altering our objective.
Don't mean to be a smart arse Ray, but I just can't help but revisit a post you made from last week. For someone who wasn't going to waste time on what if's and maybe's you seem to have done just that. :p:eek::rolleyes:

You are just pessermystic.

Look at last year, bad start stormed home. Finished second on the ladder based on second half of year results. That is what we do we come home with a wet sale.

I couldn't be bothered spending the time thinking about it at that point when I'd already written numerous lengthy replies. In the days following the Melbourne game I did think about it, look at the draw again etc.

Doing that is entirely consistent with what you quoted - though I can see how you read it differently...it's not brilliantly worded. Having "at this stage" at the end it would have better reflected my intentions.

I don't know why you quoted the "While we remain a mathematical chance then I see zero point in altering our objective" part...that's been my position all season and still is.

Sorry Ray, didn't mean it to come across like I was having a shot at you. It just put a smile on the dial thats all. I know exactly what you're saying with that post, its just as I said there are just too many things that need to go right for us to make up ground. Especially when we're a realistic chance of being 0-5 after the weekend (hope I'm wrong though).
