Thai airways is unreal.
Great food, heaps of fantastic Thai beer, plus you get to go to Thailand at the end of the flight. this makes up for the lack of in flight entertainment.

Agree 100%. Especially with the comment about getting to Thailand, having lived in BKK for 3.5 years.

I stopped flying Qantas when they stopped going direct to Melbourne, which would have meant getting into Sydney at 6am and having to take off your bags, clear customs, get to domestic, check in for domestic flight, etc, etc. Thai = direct = stuff Qantas.

ps - watch out for that Singha flu!!!

Best

Qantas - Aussie Aussie Ausse :D
Air Pacific - Awsome airline great service
Singapore Air - Awsome
Gulf Air - Only had 1 problem with them, and that was that the beer was cold :(

Worst
Garuda Indonesia ( THe pilot landed then took off again and then landed) ... No thanks

Air New Zealand - Because they are Kiwis

Judging airlines by their nationality = You tool.

Singapore - Kris TV. Nuff said.

Recently flew Air Paradise to Bali. They were ok.

I go Singapore only for the tv's in the back of the seats. It's comfortable to kill that crappy air time. If it's a short flight (Bali, Thailand, Hong Kong, etc....) I don't really are. It's not like any onf them are really gonna crash these days and the food is as bad as any other.

I'll be flying KLM and Malaysia Airlines, economy, later this year. Does anyone have any stories on these airlines good, bad or otherwise?
I had a fantastic flight with Malaysian airlines once. It was just a short flight in Sarawak, Malaysia in a small plan but it went past some really interesting rock monoliths. We asked the pilot if we could take a closer look and he said it was no problem. He then titlted the plane so that we got a better view, then did a circle around the mountain so we could see again, this despite the plane being an hour and half late on take off. That in itself was a good thing, considering as I'd only woken up 10 minutes before the due time in a bed approxiamately 2kms away from where I was staying. The pilot then nearly crashed into a tree when landing, but he apologised.

KLM a trip to www.airdisaster.com should do enough to put you off them, they seemed to have 'incidents' they were also a 'player' in the worst ever air disaster in the airline history when their 747 crossed into the path of a Pan-Am 747 while taking off killing over 500 people. :(

Ahhh airdisaster.com my fav website :D 1 look on there and you will never want to fly again with anyone.

I knew I was going to regret looking at the website... ahh well I just try to have a few beers before I fly tommorrow.

I flew Malaysian Airlines to London from sydney early this year (about to make the return flight). I found the flight staff to be reasonable, food ok, in-flight entertainment was good as well. They have a tv screen, where it updates a map showing your current location, current airspeed etc. I thought it was very nifty.

I flew to London on Qantas once.

They made everyone pull their blinds down 3 1/2 hours into the flight, they cut off everyone from drinking and this was after the in flight entertainment system broke down.

Then they were rude for the rest of the flight.

Aussies do things well. In-flight service is not one of them.

Best eye candy - Lufthansa!

What's the name of that Russian airline that's a flying death trip?

I know the Russian one, think it's called Aeroflot.
Anyway, Singapore is best by a mile. Great planes, good entertainment, nice enough room in economy, and the best part is that you go through Singapore, not Dubai (out of the way) or Bangkok airport (filthy). Great airport, Changi

Yep, damn that website. KLM's last crash was in '77 which reassured me. Although I guess they're due for one now aren't they!

They had an incident late last year when one of their planes ran off a runway and I also seen a photo of another KLM jet trying to land and the wing nearly touched the ground, bouncing along the runway on one wheel :(

Just out of curiosity those who voted for QANTAS have you flown with any one else? If so who?

As I said I have flown all the options except Garuda and KLM. Of that lot QANTAS are the best.

However there are three airlines that are not on that list that I have flown that I consider better than QANTAS - Lauda Air, Northwest and Aeroflot.

I fly heaps, especially in the past 5 years or so.

Qantas was hopeless, but the past 12 months or so they have lifted their game considerably from that I have experienced. They now have individual TV screens in economy, and their Business class is finally on par with most of the rest of the world (long haul flights). Service sucks a bit, but service in general sucks here compared to other places around the world. I mainly fly to the US, and have found Qantas the best overall for direct flights to LAX.

United is horrible - stuck in the 80's.

Iberia is ok...Malaysian is very, very good, as is Singapore. Lan Chile was suprisingly very good as well, service was excellent. British is good, seem to update their planes before a lot of others. Alitalia is pretty basic. American is not bad, Air NZ is similar to Qantas. Delta nothing special. US Air downright scary, all their planes seem to struggle in the flying department - not smooth at all. US Airways isnt much better. Aerolineas Argentinas is average - Lan Chile much better for a South American. New Caledonias airline is pretty basic as well, cant remember the name.

Overall, it depends on the route you are on, and what sort of plane they give you. Ive been on Qantas when it absolutely sucked, and recently I couldnt fault it, it was fantastic.

Ive flown on a few more, but thats all I can remember right now.

Aeroflot?? are you kidding? or are you serious???
Personally i think their saftey record and their pilots ability or inability to speak the international language required in aviation speaks for its self. Perhaps also the fact that they are banned from many countries in the world as a result of poor quality equipment, pathetic saftey record and the list goes on.

Their record during the time of the Soviet Union and for a few years after was abysmal. But so was everything else in the Soviet Union.

The last couple of years they have really picked up their act. I flew with them from Bangkok to Moscow a couple of years ago and was really impressed. There is as much leg room in economy as most planes have in first class. Their food was great. The flight attendants were attractive and courteous and there was as much vodka as you could drink :D
