think this topic deserves its own thread...

in the past 2 years little Gazza was a lock in any serious SC players team at the start of the year, with his move to GC I am having some doubts, as he will not have the talent around him to block, take the tag as well as link up with his for the "give and goes" he likes to do to rack up his points.

However on the flip side he will be given carte blanche to do whatever he likes he wont be forced to go forwards like he was last year (and he still avg 130).

pro
  • hes Gazza
  • 100% (or there about) midfield time
  • he will not have many team mates taking points off of him - due SC scoring system/weighting.
con
  • heavy tag
  • less strong bodies around him
  • there are other options Judd, BJ, Swanny, Selwood
  • not playing round 1.

From the start id say no. Without the midfeild help its hard to know wether he will be the same dominant force. Im thinking he will still score well but his he might drop back to the pack a bit.

Still with the byes scheduled the way they are for the gold coast ill still be looking long and hard at lil gazza for an upgrade after his 2nd bye. By then we should have had plenty of time to see how hes going. The only risk is will we have missed the boat by waiting til round 10???

I think Gaz might be an upgrade for me this year. So no, not a lock.

I’d say look at him as an upgrade target, there's too many variables this year such as the captaincy, team's performance, groin issues.

It'd be a gamble, and to be honest it could be a differentiating factor that lets you get a jump on the pack at the start of the year if he comes out firing. You'd look like a genius, and you definitely a few of those factors to place in the top couple of hundred. But I combine league and overall so top 1000 is my usual aim, which means playing it safer so no - he's definitely not a lock in my team.

GC have two byes in the first 9 rounds, the ideal time to get him would be round 10 and onwards.

I honestly feel the bigger question is how Swan will cope with the new interchange rules. Swan is very much a burst player and part of the reason he is so effective is because of the amount of interchanges he has in a game. Obviously that number will have to drop down, will it take his SC scores with it?

PS; I still don't plan on having Ablett.

Ablett will be an upgrade as per all the comments above... One thing I can see happening is the boys at GC giving it their all (and sacrificing their own games) to protect him. That will be the game plan... Let Ablett do what he does best, no matter what. So maybe not as bad as we all think... but still an upgrade none-the-less for me. :thumbsu:

I Cannot Believe I am Considering Selecting...

All been burned by certain players, but with some (after a few months) you just can't help but remember all the good times, and overlook the fingernail scratches on your desk made last year when you checked their latest dismal score.

For me, I am considering the following again, and surely a reminder notice will appear in my calendar in March to tell me I must not do so, as it'll all end in tears just like 2010:

Kurt Tippett
Shaun Higgins
Bachar Houli (hey, he's a new man now, so surely I should give him another shot!)
Robbie Gray
Goodes

Any exes you're considering going back to?

Mitch Morton. I don't know if he can maintain the high scoring from late last season.

To Ablett or not to Ablett

Just went through the teams in the other thread and I could barely find a team with Gary Ablett in it. I'm amazed. I understand he has a bye first up, I understand he is in a weaker team and I understand that he has a few injury niggles, but he is Gary Ablett. Have people forgotten this? He is almost a lock for top 3 total score over the year.
He didn't have any coaching last year, played too often forward and had plenty of teammates stealing points off him. Think of the prelim last year, and that's how I think Ablett's season will go, starring in a team that gets flogged consistently, but for supercoach, that's fine as long as he racks up the stats, which he will.
I'm kind of glad nobody else has him actually and fingers crossed the hip and groin are fine!!

Re: To Ablett or not to Ablett

There are too many question marks over him right now. At his price for most people he's not worth the risk and if he plays well people will trade him in, at least missing 1 bye.

Re: To Ablett or not to Ablett

It's a no from me.

Won't have the experienced support he once had at Geelong and will be the sole focus of opposition sides (even moreso than previous years).

Swan a much juicier prospect.

He is almost a lock for top 3 total score over the year.

Could name at least ten players who I think will score more points (total) this year ;)

I doubt I'll bother with him this year, he's still a hell of a player but he's going to get drilled without the big bodied support he's used to. It wouldn't surprise if the lack of support and experience around him causes a few on-field meltdowns directed at some of the younger players.
