is AFL Live worth getting?

We have talking over wether we should make the jump and get the game. I think you have tilted the decision to yes.

Now the second part of the problem... where? and how?

...At a games shop with money?

Edit: Just noticed your location. eBay or something like that would be your best bet.

Yes, the location is the problem. :)

Took a look on E-bay, then went to E-bay.au. Found a few. Most won't ship that far, but have heard that it might be available as a download.

As a vetren of the old computer game "Grand Prix Legends" I understand this game will have a steep learning curve, but my team (2 of us so far) are hoping to pick up a better feel for the game from playing.

and if the PSN ever gets back at full strength, we might let you guys kick our buts a few times. :)

It's unlikely to be a download - I am trying for the US as the XBox version in particular does not run on NTSC boxes (the PS3 version is fine).

Is AFL Live worth getting? I've owned the game since before its official release date (thank you Target in the Hay Street Mall :D) and while I don't regret being such an early adopter, if I had my time over again I'd wait for the patch to be honest. Playing Single Matches only because I don't want to simulate my West Coast season is getting tiresome. And hopefully the patch won't introduce more issues that need to be patched at an even later date! :)

You know that if you simulate the other games first you can then play your game just fine? (Trophies, Premiership, etc... all in tact).

Yeah, I discovered that after posting that.

Will the patch affect save games (ie. after the patch is installed do we have to start over again?)

The patch will have no effect on saved games.

Shit game is shit. I'm trading this one in ASAP.

Controls are unresponsive when you when you want them to be in heavy traffic and too sensitive when you don't want it to. The amount of times I've taken a contested mark in defense and game has assumed I want to play-on is pissing me off. Oh and the opposition AI always seems to read the play smarter than your AI.

Sound is poor, commentary is poor. Comettisms are baffling and without context (what is the Tokyo subway route anyway?) and BT's contribution is even more worthless than his standard commentary.

The bugs in the game are very detrimental to gameplay and given the makers are well and truly aware of the bugs the fact that now patch is yet become available (even accounting for PSN being down) is just unacceptable.

Big Ant have failed to deliver on this one.

Sorry you're having such a tough time with it.

The controls are the controls, ie, there is no contextual lag introduced dependant on position, clock, players on screen, etc....

The AI never assumes you want to play on, you must have the R1 button (Sprint) pressed, otherwise they would go back behind the mark for the kick.

The AI support for the human opponent is the same for the AI team, if you were to mimick the play of the AI you would see that they behave the same.

As to your last point, we have no control over Sony or MicroSoft and their testing schedule - you should expect many games to be delayed because no testing was done while PSN was down and they are playing catch-up.

For someone who generally enjoys the management side of sports games over the actual gameplay, what would people recommend - AFL Live or Premiership Coach 11? Is the gameplay in AFL Live that enjoyable an aspect of the title that it would make it a better overall purchase ahead of the assumedly superior management aspects of Premiership Coach 11?

why would it?

I don't like the bug-riddled product that Big Ant has produced, I plan to off-load the product for something else that I'll hopefully enjoy more and won't bother spending my hard on future Big Ant AFL releases.
Game is far from bug-riddled. But whatever floats your boat.

It's amazing how many times I take a contested mark in defence and DON'T play on. Are you taking the the whole, player marks while running forward thing as playing on? Because it's certainly not, it can confuse online opponents into often tackling you (and I think there MAY be a bug regarding them tackling you and it calling play on at times). But I can't honestly say I've ever had moments of contested or not marks in defence and playing on unintentionally...and I've played PLENTY of games, online and off.

The AI being very smart, well, that's not really one way or the other for mine. Any game on the hardest difficulty plays with near perfection in the way it's coded, seriously, go look at any sports game or any general game like a COD...on the hardest difficulty they are literally perfect. That being said, I can beat the Legend difficulty and am looking forward to the upping of the difficulty.

If I could offer one suggestion, I'd wait for the patch (which won't be too much longer). There's a ton of balancing fixes as well as just some good implementations on the online side of things.

I've played on accidentally many times and it can be very frustrating when it happens. It usually happens when you mark the ball and the players momentum takes them forward, if you don't then run back it can call play on. I've played on many times when i haven't even been touching the controller.

Correct, it's happened too many time for me, especially in defence

Hasn't happened to me unless I've held/touched the R1 or the stick.

There is a bug where if the momentum takes you past the mark you can get tackled by a human opponent (not AI) and play on called but that is somewhat an exploit (that is taken away with the patch).

Its definitely happened to me. It might be lag induced of course, but I've marked the ball near the boundary and my player has kept running, then because I'm not holding backwards the player just stands there, over the mark, and its called play on. Sometimes after a player has tackled me.

I can't recall the exact situation but if it happens again I'll try to remember to post what happens. From my memory its that the player keeps running after marking the ball, then doesn't run backwards once they stop. It is then called play on.

EDIT: This is with me keeping my hands off of all the buttons/analogue sticks so as to stop the player playing on accidentally.

Sorry I mistakingly thought it was offline you were talking about - I'll definitely ask the QA guys if they've seen it, they've played thousands of hours online.

If you prefer management games get PC 11, pretty easy decision. Recommend getting both though :thumbsu:

As long as your PS3 is connected to the internet, all you will need to do is start up the game and download and install it (these will be prompted to you when you start it up, don't have to go looking for it or anything).

Patches are always free and are there to fix any bugs, glitches and sometimes add modes.

You can download as many as your PS3 HDD will hold (which is the GB limit), there is no 'patch limit' only a Hard Drive potentially filling up, which is unlikely as the average patch is about 15-30MB.
