is AFL Live worth getting?

I wonder what you roll your eyes at ?

I am a lover of afl more than soccer but I prefer fiffa because the game was designed correctly unlike afl live.

If you have played it you would know where I am coming from.

FIFA has been around for a long time and they've had plenty of time to improve it. AFL LIVE is only the first installment made by Big Ant and it's pretty damn good. I bet an AFL game is harder to make than a Soccer game..

I have been playing it for 3 days straight on ****ing amateur and I just can't ****ing play it. It's really pissing me off! I'm a gamer, especially a sports gamer, and have had AFL games before e.g. but ****ing hell, everything I try goes to shit...I'm about to give up.

Try getting the hang of it by connecting a second controller and play 2 player mode for a bit. It might get a bit boring, but at least you'll be able to work on your ruck or throw in tactics without much hassle. And also work on kicking, hand passing etc.

-Sigh-

I've played FIFA (notice how it's not fiffa?) for a long time and if you think that it requires more skill to play FIFA than AFL Live then you are an insanely huge douche talking out of your arse.

Marking is timing, not luck. Just because you're shit at a game doesn't make it bad.

I agree

If someone thinks its about luck then they are clearly a shit player that cant got the ball out of a contest. once you get it out of a contest and know how to get it out without just bombing it forward in hope the game really opens up

lol FIFFA ftl.

I was a FIFA addict, I'll admit it. However since getting AFL Live, I have put FIFA 11 in my system just twice. Now when I say I was an addict, I am talking at least 300 hours of FIFA over the last 3-4 years, AT LEAST 300 hours. So I don't take FIFA lightly, however I would say that for fun factor AFL Live out-does FIFA 11. Overall polish, of course FIFA is still quite a bit ahead. But nothing beats the fun, frantic nature that AFL Live has brought.

Completely agree with you about marking, I swear people think that everything in this game should be simple. "You can't break free from packs enough" "I can't mark everything" "Goal kicking should be easier". MY GOD, have a bitch!

You can break free from packs if you play it right, at times I get a huge amount of free room to move. But it's due to hard work that I get it...strangely this is something that happens IRL too!

Sometimes you get spoiled in marking contests, sometimes you'll break free and take a mark almost uncontested. Does IRL AFL happen like this? You betcha.

There's a ton of risk/reward balancing gameplay, if you take the time to learn it and learn what is the risk and what is the reward you will find that the game plays remarkably like the game it's attempting to emulate.

AFL Live has it's issues, but the gameplay is far from the biggest one. If you're not doing well at the game...IT IS YOU!

Agreed 100%.

I'm in the same boat where I've played plenty of FIFA over the last few years but the game hasn't touched my console since I bought AFL Live.

Yep I agree too.

If anyone doesn't like this game, they are either not a very big footy fan, or don't know the actual sport and all its intricacies very well. You have to put a lot of effort and tact into how you control the flow of play. I am constantly controlling a player just off the ball to get him into space.

RLL was on a similar level of detail. You really had to think 2-3 passes ahead.

You get out of it what you put in, its as good a gameplay as we are going to ever get.

Big Ant have cemented themselves as the premier developer for Aussie Sports games.

If you don't like it because you can't play it very well, get the Wii version this week.

That maybe because FIFA is old and AFL only just came out.

FIFA is still way more fun than AFL.
No, there's been plenty of new sports games come out that could potentially take over FIFA. But I have always gone back, this time however, I rather have AFL Live in my system than FIFA.

Each to there own

I love AFL live, and i love FIFA, i also like to play NHL, NFL and NBA.

for me AFL is the best because i love AFL in real life, played it and go and watch my team at the G.

I watch my kids play Footy and they love to play it on the PS3

Yes it is a hard game when you first start to play, but like anything if you like it and keep going you WILL improve. :footy:

I generally don't like sports games. I get bored with them very quickly, I think it's because most of them are for sports I just don't give a shit about. I.e GridIron, Soccer.

AFL Live I love, because it's the sport I love and this game is the closest adaption of the real thing.

Nothing better then playing a quality online opponent and getting a run on him. Ran the ball from a point to goal last night. Played on from the kick out, hand balled over the top ran it up the HB line kicked it to a winger, played on kicked it to the HF who then played on again and spotted up grant on lead. He then slotted it from 30 out. :thumbsu:

Is AFL Live worth getting? I've owned the game since before its official release date (thank you Target in the Hay Street Mall :D) and while I don't regret being such an early adopter, if I had my time over again I'd wait for the patch to be honest. Playing Single Matches only because I don't want to simulate my West Coast season is getting tiresome. And hopefully the patch won't introduce more issues that need to be patched at an even later date! :)

All patches only fix issues that have been raised,

With new patch you will always get people/players who are not happy with things they have changed.

I would imagine that once the patch goes live, people will post on this forum about New issues with the New Patch.

Happened with Uncharted 3 :)

Oh Yeah, The season mode bug.

I am only up to round 20 in my 12min season, Not sure if i will get the trophy

Im not sure how to avoid this bug, do i simulate games before i play my game ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? :)

This board is funny. If you don't like the game then you are obviously horrible at it. Love the logic.

Haven't played personally so i have no opinion other than videos and reviews so i won't comment. Might pick up a version a few years down the track, give them a few years to get the hang of it. Personally i don't think we'll ever see a truly great AFL.

You should play the game. Rent it or play it with a mate, you will be surprised by how fun it is.

EDIT: Unless you suck at it. ;)

Lol.

I'm sure i'll play it at some point. Where does one even rent games from these days? Think there's a video ezy around. Honestly i'm not that fussed for a whole heap to play at the moment.
