is AFL Live worth getting?

The first couple of days I found the only way I could get a clearance was when I had a midfielder set up directly behind the ruckman, I tapped it to him, and then booted the ball as far as I could, hoping to land it in the lap of the CHF.

After a while, you get the hang of handpassing it in close. Still pretty difficult, but when you get the hang of it it's so much better than just slamming it on the boot. Short passes also take a fair bit of time to get used to, no matter what difficulty you're playing, but it's so much more fun and rewarding hitting up your CHF with a 20 metre pass than booting it long and hoping it falls in the lap of your FP/FF.

In short, the gameplay is much better and more balanced than previous games, but it's still not perfect. Plenty to build on though, and worth getting IMO.

I'm starting to side with no.

I was having a ball at first, gameplay is okay (it's still ruck, tackle, ruck, tackle for me which is really annoying) but it just lacks in features to keep the game interesting for long periods of time. I would take it back after 7 days but I got it from JB and not EB. Maybe it's because I haven't been able to try out online with PSN down for the last 5 days but I'll have to see what online brings when PSN finally comes back online.

Got the game today. I've played a few games. I'm really enjoying it. Sure it isn't the greatest game ever made but I was laughing and having so much fun. Seriously if you like AFL and you like gaming then for me this is a no brainer. People whinging over the menu music are such sooks. OMG all men u music gets annoying.

ive played Rookie and way to many goals get kicked by both teams.. and that was 10 minute quarters.

Playing a full game would probably end in a 400-400 draw.

Play a full game in the NBA 2k series and the scores will be 130-140 each.

Play a full game in FIFA and there will be 100 goals scored.

I think you will find most people would rather not commit to anything more than 20-30 minutes per game, and you get semi realistic scores anyway

Online makes the game IMO, and the gameplay is a lot different to previous versions anyway. You have control of when you give frees away, can handball and kick while being tackled (preventing too many stoppages if you actually use this feature) and feel like you actually earn goals even if you win by shitloads.

Have being playing the last 2 days, the gameplay is a disappointment, no better than any other AFL game thats ever been made.

Noot sure that settings you need to make the game semi-realistic , but an example of how stupid it is is that I just played on Veteran level and the computer kicked 7 goal in the fist 3 minutes.

No i am not kidding.

The opponent is ALWAYS first to a loose ball, theres no chance of getting a decent clearance because you get tackled straight away, the Gameplay is too fast and way to many goals are scored.

There are minor issues with the game, but everything you've just specified is because you're shit at the game. Give it time and you'll be pumping the Pies with Melbourne on legend mode n these issues will be a thing of the past.

Its a multiplayer game. That is how I see it.

I've had a tonne of fun playing with mates, even just against AI (they weren't really good enough to play against).

Online was addictive as crack as well.

The single player is okay, but not great by any stretch. I'd say its worth getting, IF you have online, or have friends. Otherwise I wouldn't bother as you won't get longevity out of it.

Not at full price at least. Definitely worth 40 bucks or whatever.

I thought the publisher decides region coding on 360 games. Many 360 games are region free. I have many NTSC USA and Asian 360 games that play fine.

No the guys at BigAnt and the publisher begged MS to not put this restriction. MS have a rule if the publisher is only in one region then that's the only region they can use.

Worth it for sure if you have mates

Its so fun getting 4 controllers a few beers together and playing. So much fun working with ya mates. Also you can play online with 4 people in the room. But i find 2v2 is the best. Its good making your own teams. The salary cap is to low though

i would just try it yourself - it depends on what you want to get out of it. I personally have played most of the AFL games through the years and had great hopes this had nailed at least part of the game. I have been hard at it for about a week - and i have to say, this is in no way any better than any efforts before. It really isn't - in fact it's just a plain bad game. I know a lot of people defend it cause hey they don't have the cash EA has etc. but this game is just plain broken. and considering it cost $100 - this is just a waste of money. A patch would help a few things, but no patch will make this a decent game, it really won't. it's a lot of fun playing with guys on the same machine, but so was every other AFL game. god i just watched some youtube videos of the very first AFL game on the xbox as well as AFL 98 on the PC - those games were so much more polished gameplay wise. sure there werent as many things that you could do - but most of those things dont work in Live anyway unless you are playing newbs - its just a broken game.

online it is fun when pumping newbs - cause thats the only time you are likely to have consistent palys that are anything like a real game. but thats cause the newbs select players and run away from the ball accidentally. when you meet someone else who has played a bit as well - the game just exposes itself for how broken it is. when i say broken - the one thing the game does a million % wrong is marking. footy is a game of kicking and marking - and they got 50% of it completely wrong. against good opposition - a bit of button mashing will always keep the ball in the ground. against bad players - you dont even need to press a button - let the computer take chest mark after chest mark. the fact the mark button does not initiate anything like a jump to take a mark is ridiculous. its a timing slash button mashing lottery for what animation it lets out. its just crap to be fair - and no im not sh*t at the game - i am not amazing, but i do win most matches online and see no need to want to improve. its just slow - the controls feel heavy, really heavy. nothing happens when you want it to - it becomes a game of learning how screwed the controls are and exploiting the fact your opposition is still hoping the controls will actually work how you would expect them to. it really is that bad.

given theres more glitches than things that work - we can really only support this game in the hope they try again and get it right. which i hope they can.....but this is just a bit of fun on local multi, and a bit of fun caning newbs online. but to be fair - ive played better AFL games, much better.

I have been playing it for 3 days straight on ****ing amateur and I just can't ****ing play it. It's really pissing me off! I'm a gamer, especially a sports gamer, and have had AFL games before e.g. but ****ing hell, everything I try goes to shit...I'm about to give up.

Spoil in the backline. Use handballs when you can, and pretty much hold down tackle when you are near the ball. Thats about the best advice i can give off the top of my head.

There is probably better advice in this forum.

Its ok but very ordinary.

I play it like 3 online matches a week because it frustrates the crap out of me.

I put FIFFA 11 back in because atleast you have the ability of using your skill and footy smarts to enjoy rather than AFL were you just tackle and kick and its luck game if you mark it or not.

Very amateur game!
