E-Mac’s 2015 was one of the best defensive seasons I’ve seen since Jakovich in the mid late 90’s when I was a wee lad.

Since he did his knee it’s a fair assumption that he’s still not got back to his best. Turbo McGovern has taken the #1 defender mantle and quite rightly; with Barass taking the second and Schofield coming in and out of the side as needed for the third tall with Brad Sheppard playing the role when Schofield doesn’t play.

However this week McGovern is an out (not surprising given yesterday’s photo) and Schofield, as one of the regular emergencies, has got the call up. However he’s not the same type of player as Mackenzie.

So. I’ve been out of the country for the last month and been watching our games, but not following any WAFL progress so I don’t actually know how he’s tracking, but I’d have thought this the perfect opportunity for his recall.

What do you think guys? Eric’s only on a one year contract and he’s not in the frame at the moment, is he done?

He did his knee in 2015 FYI.

Yes i agree with you.

Like Water's, injuries have ruined his career. IMO he was up there with Rance pre injury(should have won at least one AA) and just prior to his injuries, his intercepting work was elite. In 2014 he was top 5 for intercept marks. Im talking through my ass but i rekon Emac worked with Gov in 2015 with his defensive game and really helped Gov's game that season.

3 games short of life membership. Might still get the LM nod regardless. Given he has been captain, best and fairest, somehow not an All Australian, and has only been cut short by a very small margin through mostly no fault of his own, you'd think the club will overlook the 150 games mark.

In a club that has had no shortage of gun defenders over the 3 decades of our existence, defensively he comfortably sits alongside them. (Fair to say not as good with ball in hand as others but won't hold the against him to harshly).

If he doesn't pull on the blue and gold again he'll be missed.

Was never going to get a call up this week when he is still in rehab.
The road will be tough for Mackenzie but probably shouldn't be dismissed just yet.
Mind you, he's just about to turn 30 years of age.

There are several forwards that the Impaler matches up and closes down well including Buddy. Had he been fit Round 1 against Sydney we may well be 7 - 0. I hope he gets fit so we have him up our sleeve if we play finals.

Terminal toe? ...might see him back yet for one last cameo finals role?

What a sad fall from grace. Was our rock for a while there. Used to love watching him dominate KPFs and then carefully drop that footy onto his foot while everyone prayed for clean connection.

Also that running goal against St Kilda/Wilkes was only like the fourth game I saw live and it was an absolute magical moment. I screamed my ass off

Remember when his confidence was so high high that he would go with his left foot?

Who else looks gonners at years end?
Karpany has to be!!! I would've said Schofield at the start of the season but might have got his dash back.

Karpany and mutimer will go. Reckon eMac is a good chance and IMO the club will cut parto so he could get greater opportunity at another club.

Turns 30 next week, but given he’s played really 2 years of footy since 2014 you’d think his body would still be feeling pretty fresh.

Personally, if he can manage to overcome this toe injury, I hope he kicks on. He probably remains our #1 lockdown defender so gives him a POD over Schofield in the key position stakes. I’m not sure we keep both moving into next year, unless something substantial changes.

Probably a big if, though.

He’ll face a tough road back now but I don’t think Barrass has completely shut the door just yet. If he can get back on the park in the second half of the season and perform then he’d be something of a chance come the pointy end of the year if we are still rolling for the year.

Who can forget his behind post effort against Port in the final?

...or that time he got KNOCKED the flip OUT by a footy to the face in the pre-season? - Classic EMac.

That speed was one reason why he was so good. He could go with the likes of Buddy on a lead but he should wrestle the monsters. Pitty how everything panned out.
