Looking at the Geelong game on Friday night, did our smaller players look smaller than theirs? We looked a bit on the light side too... I haven't researched our guys stats or anything but just to the naked eye it appeared this way. Discuss.

Must be an illusion if you look at the height weight ratio of our players they are right where they should be except for a few of the really young ones

we talking smaller in height or size ? keep in mind we had a lot more senior players out who therefore have had multiple pre-season = weight sessions under their belts.

Overall size, height/weight/muscle. Mainly looking at our smalls. I guess I'm forgetting we had a lot of our younger guys in. It just seemed quite noticeable.

It's the fashion phenomena known as the horizontal stripe versus vertical stripe effect.... and the white shorts add to the effect. Geelong players always look bigger in the body than they really are...

Nah...I agree with the OP....watching the two sides warm up I noted to someone else in the room...."How much bigger" the Cat's looked than our guys. Having most of our key position players out (Cloke, Reid, Moore) as well as Pendles, Langdon, and Goldsack meant we did tend to look a little on the small and thin side. Once the action got going though you could tell that our skills and speed of ball movement more than stood us in good stead against the Cats. And once Mason Cox started taking marks and Fas got loose our forward line functioned like a swiss watch.

Its just you ....

....and the jumpers, smaller Geelong blokes always look wide and stocky in those hoops whereas the pies all look like rangy six footers in the stripes. Which incidentally is where the saying a 'Collingwood six footer' came from, the jumper supposedly adding a few inches to our medium height blokes back in the day.

The Cats always look bigger than us. Always. It could be something to do with hoops versus stripes, or they just recruit a lot of talls. But it hasn't prevented us from regularly beating them.

Black is slimming
We're younger than them
Even their "new" players are kinda old-ish given how long they've held onto their geriatrics
We're still a pretty decently taller side. We may be THE tallest side int he AFL, if not Top 3.
