He has had a number of years now to iron out some fundamental problems with his game. In particular, the execution of his disposal. He consistently turns it over when he is completely in the clear. Or when he has a shot at goal on the run- it's always this flat punt that dips. Thats just unacceptable. This is his career, you think he'd work harder at it. It's like a lawyer who can't read. And if anything, it looks he has gone backwards this year, completely surpassed by blokes like Prismall, Stokes and of course Selwood.

His pace used to be his big trump card, but he has grown top heavy and is no longer fast. He can't get his own ball, he isn't dangerous around goals. He is weak in the air. He has had the best midfield in the AFL develop around him over the past 4 years and you'd think some of that would rub off on him. He may have made it at another club with consistent game time, who knows? He is only just at AFL standard, but not anywhere near Geelong standard. And he has regressed since 2006 and will should not be at the club after his contract winds up. In hindsight, we should have traded him instead of moloney as part of the Ottens trade, but who knew?

I would like you to consider paying attention to the notion that the 'outside' player...is on the wane...there are so many players with such dynamic leg speed coming into the competition every year that there are very very few players these days who actually play the role correctly or sufficiently.

Tenace might be listed as an outside player...but he certainly plays nothing like the players you just mentioned...so maybe less of reading books...and more of watching actual footy games Dan...what do you think?

I listed his strengths and weaknesses already. Go find them and read them...read the answer. Its english...you might struggle a little bit with it at first...but you'll get there eventually.

If you havent noticed that...what do you want me to do about it? Geelong based part of their game plan last year on closing down those spaces. I watched the Tigers on Friday trying to start doing the same thing...

At this point in time there arent too many sides that are good at it...but when they get better...the style of footy will change and outside players will need to be looked at in a different light. There will still be those so outstanding you cant stop them...but many others wont get the free passage they have enjoyed in the last few years that you mention.

Are you saying Geelong didnt re define football last year? Wasnt one of their benchmarks relentless pressure and closing down the spaces for opposition teams to move the footy from and into? They did this by relentless running and having a superior fitness base. I have noticed a number of sides in the Nab cup trying to do similar things...but not for long period of time.

Of course Dan..the last 2 years will support what you are saying thats the way footy was being changed until we came and enforced a new game style...so I am predicting the next 2 years will support a change in the way outside players are viewed. Largely because of what we have started as a new benchmark in playing footy. Relentless pressure when you have the ball....relentless pressure when you dont. Its a new ball game now. What do stats of 2 years ago have to do with Geelong winning a flag by 119 pts mate and sides now trying to catch up?

This is more rubbish. In 2007 Geelong had more handball recieves than any team ever in the history of football. Why was Andrew Mackie in the team? It wasn't because of his ability to win the hard ball or his ability to stop his opponent. What was Wojcinski role? Sure we did have Ablett who is unique in that he can do both very well but he is a rare comoditiy in football.

Our style was at a higher tempo, we moved the ball on faster, we used the corridor more but that doesn't mean we got ride of outside players. It not a new ball game at all. Bomber just combined Worsfold coaching with Haffey's to great effect.

You say he'll be a "useful" footballer this year, and while I agree with you about the type of role the selectors want him to play [ actually did it quite well for a few game last year ] how and where do you envisage him getting a game if indeed you think he will??

By your own statements he has quite a few fairly serious deficiencies, "kicking under pressure" "weakness one on one in the air" "lack of concentration and body strength" not the sort of weaknesses that fill one with confidence, and I think you could throw in weakness one on one in just about any situation to be truthful.

Going on the proviso of course that we don't cop injuries it's going to be extremely hard for him to break into the side this year IMO, with the depth of our midfield and the best defensive unit in the competition there doesn't seem to be a place for him.

Nowhere near the "hack" that many paint him as, a fair depth player is how I'd rate him, but with more or less just one string to his bow it's hard to see him breaking into such a powerful side, which if I can put my head on the block for a moment, is probably about how you view him as well?
