Moved heaven and earth to ensure his son could be selected by the Crows under the father/son rule. Failed in this. Now there are reports that he has said Bryce is no certainty to nominate for the draft this year.

Does this guy have too much influence over the career of his son?

Toots, as someone who knows Ross, I can tell you that you could not be further from the truth if you tried. As a parent, naturally he wants his son to stay in SA, but he is also accutely aware that Bryce will go to who ever claims him and he totally accepts that. He does not speak for his son, he does not force football onto his son and he simply wants him to do what's best for him, not for someone else.

I believe that he is concerned at Bryce being considered a "saviour" to a bottom ranked club and the pressure that this would place on him, but isn't that natural for a father?

Please find me these reports quoting Ross as having said that Bryce will stay out of the draft. If you can't find them, then it is quite clear who the troll on this board is. By the way, is it true that Dean Brogan is retiring from PAFC to take on Tonya Harding in a boxing match? I'd back Tonya, as she's faster than Dale and more agile than a 41 year old surgeon....

I can only presume that his son is news, he gets asked questions and he answers them honestly. Can’t see the problem. If my son was a gun footballer and I thought I could remotely get my son to Collingwood when that’s where he wanted to go I’d do whatever I could and if the alternative was a move interstate against his wishes I’d go harder if possible.

Easy tiger, "saviour" we are talking Bryce Gibbs not Chris Judd here. No certainty to go 1 or 2.

That's not my opinion, it's the opinion that is coming from the clubs expressing interest in Bryce and as a result of all the media hype. Possibly a good idea to put some context before you quote "tiger";)

I assume you heard the weekend's match referred to as "The Bryce Gibbs Cup", now why would that be?

But that pressure would be on any top draftee? This year in particualar I feel would be Gibbs's best to enter as he would have other quality youngsters around him vying for 'super stardom'.

Ross Gibbs was the prime mover to have Glenelg moved from Port to the Crows for father son purposes.

You may or may not remember that under the rather odd father/ son rules which apply to non Victorian clubs for the next 20 odd years Glenelg was originally allocated to Port Adelaide. Ross Gibbs decided that he was not happy with this arrangement and was the public face of a campaign a number of years ago, while his son was still a youngster, to have a change made. At one point he appeared on TV and stated "No son of mine will play ever play for Port Adelaide". Not long after, the Crow-friendly SANFL quietly switched Glenelg over to the AFC for father/ son purposes.

Unfortunately for poor Ross-Damir his machinations did not ensure his son would play for the Crows and by some strange coincidence the Crows then started a campaign to have the father son eligibility rules (which they had originally had a hand in drafting) changed. Of course non of this had anything to do with Bryce not qualifying for them! And of course Ross had nothing to do with this move.

Now we hear from one of the more sensible Crows posters that there are strong rumours circulating in Adelaide that Bryce Gibbs may not nominate for this years draft. Is Damir Gibbs playing funny games once more?

We seem to have encountered the phenomenon of posters who don't read through a thread. For the benefit of a couple of posters here who haven't read the previous page here's an earlier post you might like to ponder...

Ive told my son the same thing. This news is old news. Ross was on 5aa earlier on this year saying the same thing. He said if he thought Bryce was not ready to start his AFL career then he many not nominate. His father obviously has his welfare at heart, and probably knows him better than anyone so there is nothing wrong with letting him play for Glenelg for another year.

Can you blame him! ;) :p

To compare Ross to Damir is sheer lunacy though! I can't recall him having regular tantrums, belting up a camera man & ruining his kid's career.

No afc9798 made the claim that Ross Gibbs does not presume to speak for his son and is not trying to influence which club he goes to. I'm simply quoting Ross Gibbs doing exactly that.
